Despite the fact that the Huawei Ascend, an Android 2.1-equipped entry-level device, just launched on Cricket, it looks like MetroPCS wanted to get in on the action as well. Unfortunately, they weren’t able to match the Cricket price. However, the device, as should be expected, is the exact same. Featuring a 3.5-inch HVGA display, and WiFi connectivity, the Ascend may not be the brightest Android star, but it’s certainly not the worst.

Especially when the unsubsidized price for the handset is still under $200, even with MetroPCS. For the $179 price tag, you also get a 3.2MP camera on the back of the handset. It did launch with Android 2.1, and there’s no word on whether or not the device will ever seen an update. It’s available right now, so if you’re looking for a new Android option on MetroPCS, here’s one.
