The bad news continues to mount for the HTC Thunderbolt as word is getting around that video chat using Skype will not be available when the 4G phone reaches customers on February 28th. A leaked page from BestBuy.com shows Skype’s video chat feature will not be available as planned. But slipped dates are nothing new for this HTC Phone. As you recall from last week, it’s launch date slipped a week. So chances are, we’ll see Skype video calling down the road, but the question is, when?
We know that video chat can work on the Thunderbolt as Skype’s CEO demo’d it during CES, last month. But one factor that may be affecting it using the 4G network could be Skype merger with Qik, which was announced last month. It wouldn’t be all that surprising if software integration is taking longer than planned. It’ll probably eventually make it to the Thunderbolt, but if users can’t wait, they could try the hack we published last October for at least a 3G video chat.
Awesome!! I would rather the device ship on Feb. 28th without Skype than to delay the launch of the device due to Skype.
Announce/release the device and then push a software update once the Skype issues have been resolved (however long that may take).

Um.. the demo at CES was not a working demo. They even specified that it was not working at the moment, it was just a pre-recorded thing to show off the capabilities.
Just FYI I got my Wired magazine and they advertise this feature in the ad. I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t put they in the ad if it weren’t going to happen.
I know I’m not the only one disappointed by this news. Skype is getting an increased userbase, with around 30 million concurrent calls I believe. I wonder if that had an impact on this decision.

Your company is embarrassing itself in regards to the handling of the HTC Thunderbolt release. There is no need to reply to this message but I advise you to simply stop for a minute and ask for input from non-employees like your immediate family and co-worker friends. This approach will give you the least unbiased views regarding the fiasco surrounding Verizon’s so called “Release Date.” Unfazed? Ok, take a couple of minutes and read the many hundreds of blurbs on the world wide-web.
Release date is march 24th and the reason for the delay is that they WILL make sure it is pre-installed with skype
