It looks like the latest and greatest version of Android from Google, version 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich is starting to make its way to multiple HTC handsets. HTC was quick to announce their devices that would see the update, but never detailed an actual time frame for most. If you have the HTC Rezound that day is today because Android 4.0 ICS with Sense UI 3.6 has just leaked in an official build. Get it and the details below.

This is an official build of Android 4.0 and Sense UI 3.6 for the Verizon HTC Rezound, and has updated radios that should help with signal, improve battery life, and of course bring you to the latest version of Android. Previous leaks were older builds of ICS with the original Sense 3.5 and weren’t all that stable. Today the folks at Android Police were lucky enough to get the file, so hit the links below and give it a try.

Again this is an official version, but most likely not the final release that will be rolled out to devices once it gets the green light from Verizon. We are hearing this is a release candidate and highly stable so if you don’t want to wait for it, you can have that tasty and frozen Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich right now. There is a completely stock version, and a pre-rooted version below for those that are worried about losing root access. The rooted version does not have the new radios so you’ll have to decide what you want. Users can try OTA Rootkeeper from the Play Store if they’d like to keep root, and try the stock versions with the new radio.

Directions and download files:

– Download file, rename it to “PH98IMG.zip” (no quotes)
– Place the renamed file onto the root of the SD Card (not in a file)
– Power down your device
– Reboot into the bootloader by holding VOL DOWN + Power
– The flashing process should begin automatically

That is it! Let the phone do its thing and complete the update. It should reboot and you’ll be enjoying that tasty and buttery smooth Android 4.0.3 ICS and Sense UI in no time flat. The Rezound isn’t the only lucky one. The Sensation in the UK recently received a similar treat and the HTC Vivid update on AT&T was leaked yesterday too, but from AT&T themselves. Do this at your own risk, Android Community or the source of the files are not responsible should you run into issues.

Enjoy Android 4.0 on your HTC Rezound and let us know in the comments below how it runs, and if you have any issues.

    • I tried it again, It has been 30 Minutes and it has only downloaded 11.8MB IDK if that is even true. I have Comcast so its not my internet! I am not waiting 5 Hours for a 600MB file!!! Blah!

  1. Someone stated no beats audio with this new update.. So how could it be fully official if it doesn’t come with it? Or does it? Can someone verify that for me?

    • As far as I can tell it’s the same stock file, where you can’t use beats audio programming with other music players, as stock. Possibly final will allow for it outside of the stock-app Oo?

  2. I dl and renamed zip file go to boot loader it says no image what gives I am locked as well does that have anything to do with it ???? Help

  5. all you have to do is rename the file to the proper name and just drag it to the sd card and it will work it did take me 2 times to do it but on the second time it took also it took about 20 min for it to complete

    • It really happened that way, the first step unlock the bootloader and then the second time the ICS is installed, what I dont see is the Beats logo when the earphone is pluged, does it really has the Beats software??

  6. My phone is stock and i tried updating my phone using the stock download. i renamed the folder and i managed to get to the bootloader but my phone didnt flash on its own. I dont know what else to do. Someone should post a video on how to do it.

  9. didn’t work. using Astro to move the file to the sd card resulted in a “you failed” error but the file seemed moved to the right directory. turned off, loaded bootloader, said something about the image not being right, didn’t do anything else.

  11. I have never installed a updated software before and would really like it if someone could provide step-by-step directions for someone new like me.  I just downloaded the file:

     rezound_AndroidPolice_3.14.605.5_PH98IMG.zip

I purchased the HTC Rezound from Verizon when it was first released and so far have not altered it at all.  I’m just getting sick and tired of waiting for ICS.  We were promised it early 2012.  I do not consider May 11th to be early 2012.

I keep reading conflicting information and just don’t know what and who to believe.  Some help will be greatly appreciated.

  12. I get it downloaded and on the SD card and start up bootloader and it says “No image or wrong image!”……..my phone is completely stock and locked…. any ideas?

  13. Hey everyone – for those that are getting the error, even after renaming the file. I had the exact same problem {saying “no image”} when I tried to flash it the first couple of times. Now, I’m not saying this method will work for everyone, but it worked for me. Here goes:

You might think you have it on the root of the SD card, but the ReZound might not be looking for it there upon bootup – holding down volume & power. I actually copied the image on a partion of my SD memory card – somehow created some time ago called “Ext SD”. What I mean is –> I had the an exact copy of the file on the root AND! on this “Ext SD” folder, just to see what happens. Once I did that it read the PH98IMG.zip file & worked for me –> I’ve been on ICS for almost two months now with no problems. Hope this method helps some of you. Good Luck
