HTC readying more phones, possibly an entry-level Android device

20 July 2009 by Shane McGlaun

We are still salivating over the slick, but admittedly high-end, HTC Hero mobile phone that runs Android. We now hear that HTC is set to launch several more devices, with at least one running Android according to reports.

With the high-end Android segment well covered, what the market needs is an entry-level Android device. It appears that HTC is working the HTC Click rumored to be just the entry-level phone we are looking for.

Among other HTC offerings are several Windows Mobile devices rumored to be called the Mega and Rome. There is no word on specifications for the devices are anticipated launch dates at this time. With the year half over, we can expect lots of Android devices to hit the market in the coming weeks if Google’s promise of as many as 20 Android devices is to come true.

  1. Let me guess, another "Iphone" killer all touchscreen device with high definition, ugly chin etc.

I better see a QWERY keyboard soon.
  2. do you really think HTC is making devices just to "kill the iphone?"

No I really just don't enjoy all touch screen devices at all and call them Iphone imitators cause I'm a jerk about it.
  4. I think by entry level they mean a simpler Android phone. One without all the bells and whistles.
  5. Good, this is something our rival doesn't haven, entry level phones.
  6. what is an entry level phone?

dont all android phones need to have like a compass, touch screen, accelerometer and stuff like that? im not sure tho
  7. there are requirements, but i don't think a touchscreen is one of them. I'm sure entry level devices will be cheaper with many less features. i.e. no wifi, no gps, no bluetooth, etc.
may only have a t9 keyboard input. i'm sure the rom, ram, memory etc will all be lowered as well...
  8. Android does not require a touchscreen. I'm hoping to see some cheap flip and bar Android phones soon enough
  9. Isn't HTC supposed to launch an Android low-end device this year? Unless, of course, the HTC Lancaster that appeared in the leaked AT&T device roster is cancelled/vapour...

lol if you take away all those things whats the point?
  11. An Entry Level Phone will be like the Samsung Star / LG Cookie... with most of the features but cheap build.

    Somethg in tht price range
  12. Maybe big foot will be an entry level phone since that leaked picture of it looks very cheap
