HTC recently hinted that it was working on yet another One, and that one might soon be coming to China. This “Vogue” edition of HTC’s flagship is said to sport roughly the same specs but in an a less flattering form.

Earlier this month, HTC released a pair of images that wanted to send a message that being fashionable doesn’t have to mean expensive. This immediately set off rumors of a cheaper, plastic version of the One M8 coming soon, which some have nicknamed the One M8 “Ace”. Whether or not that Ace and this Vogue edition that will be heading to China next week are one and the same is still unknown, but they pretty much share the same premise and the same goals.

In terms of hardware specs, the HTC One Vogue is indeed similar to the current flagship, with a quad-core Snapdragon 801, 2 GB of RAM, a 5-inch 1080p display, and Android 4.4 with Sense 6.0 running on top. The similarities, however, end there. Probably to cut down on the costs, HTC has removed the Duo Camera setup on this smartphone and even removed any traces of its Ultrapixel technology. Instead, you have a regular 13 megapixel rear camera. But perhaps the most noticeable change is with the case, which has foregone the aluminum luster of the flagship for a plastic material. It’s not quite on the same levels as the cheaper HTC Desire line, however, and this Vogue variant still bears some distinctiveness as a semi-premium device.

All of those changes ultimately boil down to a lower price tag. The HTC One Vogue Edition is expected to be formally introduced to the Chinese market on June 3 with a price tag of 3,000 RMB. Converted, that’s roughly $481 stateside, definitely a lot cheaper than the $640 price tag of a contract-free model in the US. Without an official reveal yet, there is no word on international availability, but there will most likely be a few who would want to have an HTC One M8 experience, without experiencing the same cost.
