Now that the HTC One smartphone has arrived on multiple carriers and is readily available for users to check out, we’re left wondering when HTC will get back into the tablet game. Last year they swore off Android tablets for the meantime, but today rumors are floating around about an HTC tablet with Windows RT. I’ll pass on that, but what we’d really like to see is the HTC One Tablet.

So we must ask. HTC, where is the One Tablet? You guys have been riding a pretty big wave of success and praise lately for the HTC One. Nearly every single review I’ve read loved it, as did we. Now is the perfect time to release an 8-9″ slate that completely matches the One punch-for-punch. Give us everything we love about the One into a compact and portable slate, have them work together seamlessly, and bring it to market at a decent price. Please don’t make another HTC Jetstream. I think the sting is still hurting from that failed device.

The image above was found over at PocketNow, where they themselves make a pretty darn compelling argument about an HTC One tablet, so we wanted to gauge the interest of our readers as well. HTC hasn’t been doing well lately, as we’re sure many of you know, and they’ve pulled out of many markets and even cut back on device production. So now that they aren’t churning out 15 different smartphones, why not match the success and praise of the HTC One with the One Tablet. It makes perfect sense.

Yes, the build quality makes the One nearly the best device I’ve ever held. Period. And that could make for a pretty heavy tablet, but the iPad mini has no problem with it, so why can’t HTC? Samsung’s latest tablets have front facing speakers, and HTC beat them to the punch with this latest phone. We’d love to see nearly everything offered on the One, including the front speakers, on the One Tablet. That’s something we’d buy!

So what would we have in an HTC One Tablet? The device pictured at the top of the page with stunning build quality to match the One, and specs like these. An 8-inch 1280 x 800 (or even 1080p if you can swing the price) SLCD3 display, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 600 or 800 processor and 2GB of RAM, give us at least 32GB of storage (and hey, maybe a micro-SD slot) keep those awesome front facing speakers and beats audio integration, and offer all of this for $329.

Basically if HTC could release this being similar to the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 only with the look, feel, design, and dazzle of the HTC One at the same price as the iPad mini, that would sell. Or we’d like to think so at least. The folks from HTC might still be treading the water lightly, and their CEO even has his job riding on the One‘s success. Hopefully it does well in the next 3 months, and we see a matching HTC One Tablet later this year.

What do you guys think?

  1. I’ll take a 10″ 1080p and would pay premium for premium specs, but it has to be 10″ and run android with a minimum 32 gigs or have 16 with a sdcard

  2. I don’t think HTC should release a ‘one’ tablet. I’ve owned the HTC one phone for two weeks and I absolutely love it (software and hardware). Android tablets on the other hand still have limited apps that are optimized for them. This will take away from the hardware experience of such a device. As much as I don’t use my iPad 2, I still would not consider an android tablet right now. A Microsoft surface pro 2 with better battery Life? Now that’s a whole different story.

  3. Would have to be minimum 1080P – would make no sense to release a tablet with lower resolution than the phone version… Even higher would be better, but not very likely.

I love my One, but I’m not sure I’d buy a tablet since I’ve already got a Nexus 7. Otherwise I’d be all over it.

  4. Would definitely buy such tablet if it has similar features to S Pen and S Note and better specs than my Note 10.1. Of course it has to have at least 32gb of Internal storage, 64gb or 128gb would be preferred, with or without SD support.

  5. Not only NO, but HELL NO. I made the mistake of buying their HTC Jetstream and it didn’t receive a single update, a single OS update, a single bug fix update, anything. When I contacted HTC to explain the multiple issues, they explained that since they didn’t sell enough, they weren’t going to support it.

I will never buy another HTC product again, ESPECIALLY their tablets.

      • The new HTC ONE build quality isn’t the much to crow about though. I have said enough about the faux “premium” of aluminium, so I won’t keep beating the dead horse. But I finally had the leisure and time to walk into a singtel (the telcomm over here) shop and try both S4 and HTC One. Responsiveness wise, HTC One and S4 are both very responsive, so it seems that the lower spec of HTC One processor is not too much a factor (not I did not get a chance to test processor or graphic intensive apps though). One thing to note is that one of the HTC One set’s back button is indeed somewhat unresponsive as reported by many users. But the other one seems to be fine.

However, in terms of build quality, it is obvious the the quality check is not well done. I can see gaps between the speaker plate and the body. And when I close my eyes and move my finger over the phone, I can feel the jaggedness and protrusion at the joints (all over .. but especially between speaker plate and glass with the main body). This is not a sign of good build quality.

Compared to S3 and S4, the feeling is actually more seamless, although S3 fare better in this due to the fact that S4 have a band of “chromed” plastic ring around the body, so I can feel the protrusion there too, but at least it is not jagged and is more like a small bump.

  6. Nah!

I have a HTC One and a Nexus 7 and I think I’ve got my budget right on both.

On a personal level, a good phone is essential but I don’t see the point of a high end tablet.

  7. yes yes yes.. htc one tablet would be amazing.. it would bail htc out of the ever flooding basement of devices.. i have the droid dna (and love it) but i am pissed at verizon for not carrying the htc one.. so by htc releasing a tablet would make me very happy.. 🙂 it would be the best tablet on the market and I already have an ipad and the nexus 7.. i would for sure buy an htc one tablet.. bring it on HTC!!!!

  8. I would definitely be a player.. I’m thinking of a nexus tab purchase as we speak, but any real talk of an HTC ONE TAB.. IM IN!

  9. ~8.5″ 1920×1200 res (16×10 ratio) slim bezel screen, front facing speakers, either 16GB or 32GB with micro SD card expansion. Price it at $300.00 (16GB) – $330.00 (32GB) with the latest version of Android and I’m sold.
