The HTC Nexus Marlin was recently rendered based on early leaks. We only have those information imagined by a designer but we’re hoping more similar leaks will be published. We have no doubts that the Nexus Marlin will be the bigger fish from HTC as there have been talks that the Taiwanese OEM scored a three-year deal with Alphabet to manufacture the upcoming Nexus devices.

We also heard of the Sailfish aside from Marlin but we’re curious as to when the new Nexus phones will pop up. Rumor has it that Google will be introducing the new Nexus models this October. Not that it’s hard to make such speculation because previous Nexus lines were usually launched in the same month but a source is suggesting an October 4 announcement. That’s an “exact prediction” that we’re expecting to hear more about in the coming days or weeks.

These new HTC Nexus devices will definitely come with Android 7.0 Nougat as with tradition. However, we’ve heard that the LG V20 will be the first Nougat device. If that’s the case, the new Nexus phones will be announced after the September release of the LG V20. Again, we’re still not sure about all these information so take everything with a grain of salt first.

So far, here’s what we know about the specs and features of the Nexus Marlin from HTC:

• Display: 5.5-inch AMOLED screen, QHD resolution (2K, 2560 x 1440)
• Processor: 2.0GHz 64-bit Quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon
• RAM: 4GB
• Battery: 3450mAh
• Internal Storage: 32GB up to 128GB
• Cameras: 12MP rear camera, 8MP selfie shooter
• Fingerprint Scanner: rear-mounted
• Connectivity: USB-C, Bluetooth 4.2
• Speaker: bottom-firing
• Headphone Jack: Yes

All these information aren’t confirmed yet but we hope to see the light of the new Nexus Marlin pretty soon together with the Sailfish plus the Angelfish and Swordfish Android Wear smartwatches.

      • No doubt, tired of these huge phones, didn’t get the N6 or 6P because of that and the 5x was just too mediocre so I’m desperately waiting for these new ones to upgrade my Nexus 4, it’s long overdue for an upgrade.

    • I was going to say, “why so big”?

I think 5.2″ is about the cap for a comfortable one-handed experience. There aren’t enough flagships at or below that size anymore, so if you want a phone you can use with one hand AND have the best hardware, you’re SOL.

      • You mean except for almost every flagsip this first semester ?
        S7 : 5.1″
        G5 : 5.3″
        HTC 10 : 5.2″
        Xperia X : 5″
        Mi5 : 5.15″
And don’t forget that a 5″ Nexus is rumored as well.
The only size segment not represented in the high end is 4.5″ (and lower).

  1. They may be a bit taller (though not over 0.5cm, except the G5 but it’s a bigger screen and modularity takes its toll) but they aren’t any larger, hell, they’re thinner ! And that’s what is making the one handed experience possible… Every big manufacturer has a device with these sizes… Not like the 6.5″ where there is close to no option.
The “almost every” was too much i conceed. But i didn’t complain that there was no option for larger screen 😉
Well, if there is more larger phone with bigger screen every year, it’s probably because the vast majority of the buyers want it that way.

    • True, the width is a large factor in one-handed use, but height can be a factor if the bottom “chin” is part of the problem. If the bottom bezel is large, that moves the entire display higher up. That makes it much harder for you to reach the top of the screen without balancing the device in your hand so you can adjust your grip higher.
