HTC have told Android Community exactly which Bluetooth profiles the HTC Hero supports, useful details if you’re considering coding a wireless app for the platform or just wondering whether it will work with your car kit.  According to the official spec sheet, the Hero – which we reviewed earlier this week – has support for the usual headset and hands-free profiles, but lacks more advanced ones such as Remote SIM Access.

When we invited questions from our Android Community members, one of first was which Bluetooth profiles the Hero would support.  Unfortunately that information wasn’t clear from our review unit, but HTC have got back to use to confirm the list.

The news will come as a disappointment to a minority of users, but for most the inclusion of A2DP/AVRCP will be enough to keep them happy.  However the absence of any OBEX-style remote file system exploration is a frustration.

  1. Still no OBEX. What's up with OBEX, Google?
  2. OBEX pls! we really need it!
  3. Sorry - I'm a bit new to this - what does this mean in laymans terms?

I'm frustrated that I can pair with my laptop and sync my contacts & calenders, as well as upload / download pics and music. I use a Macbook Pro.

I was hoping somenoe would develop a program to allow this....
  4. I use spanning sync to sync my google contacts and google calendar with my address book and my ical. works great, make a change in the calendar on the G1 and you see it in ical, make a change in ical you see it on the G1. works the same with the G1's contacts and the address book.

For bluetooth transfer i use Bluex its on the market. its like 2 or 3 bucks i think, but you need to have root on your G1. but its great it can transfer both ways between my macbook pro and the G1.

    BTW: running MBP 2.3 C2D OS X 10.5.7
  5. Chris,

That's absolutely fantastic (to have that detail), though the flipside is that it won't work with my carkit

And why a basic profile such as OBEX is excluded...

Thanks for finding out and assigning a brand new post to this!!

  6. EQUIPT that I Use is all seen by the HTC Hero
but wont work as the hero hasent got any usable services or the ability to pass that info on when pairing then wont connect (If I had know that this device is effectivly crippled I 'd have left it on the shelf)
In saying that its a good phone works fine with radio
I need to talk with virgin about their web experience
    Regards Larry
  7. Just got a new T-mobile G2 touch (rebranded HTC hero). Like the phone, but I need the remote SIM access to be able to use my phone safely in the car.

Is the lack of remote SIM access limited by the phone, or is it an android limitation? If it's an android issue, is a fix planned? any ideas when?

If it's a phone issue, I'll find an HTC forum and ask them...

    Cheers.
