  1. After the update – holding the POWER button no longer allows you to mute the phone or put it on vibrate. Stinks !

  2. My speech to text doesn’t work. My native internet app doesn’t work. My neyflix doesn’t work. I’m pissed I thought this was suppose to be a better thing.. Wth?

  3. DO NOT DO THIS UPGRADE. SENSE UI constantly keeps locking up and forcing close. I keep getting a voicemail alert from sprint…which is funny since I use google voice for voicemail. This also breaks elements of tasker app. was informed by Sprint that there is no option to roll back and that I would be forced to reformat and flash my phone to android 2.2. This aspect sucks since those flash images are no longer available on the web. Research shows that this is a common problem for htc EVO on sprint.

  4. I have the HTC -EVO and I think the new gingerbread app sucks. I’m a contractor with DIRECTV and I use an app call DishPointer Pro, but for some reason ever since the upgrade to the gingerbread app the app doesn’t work anymore. I’ve called the developer for the DishPointer Pro app and I even called Sprint. Of course, Sprint would say it’s the developer of DishPointer Pro and DishPointer Pro blamed it on the developer of the app. Truth be told DishPointer Pro made a good point. “No compass app would work on the gigngerbread” and they sent me this link: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Google+Mobile/thread?tid=356c127f660a489d&hl=en

You can try any compass app and see for your self. Download Google Sky Map and you will see that the gingerbread app is causing issues with all compass apps, therefore my DishPointer Pro app would no longer work until the developer of Gingerbread puts out a fix; in other words I’m out $20 on an app I’ve purchased thanks to the developer of Gingerbread.

  5. UPGRADE!!!
Here is a list of what was changed in the ‘upgrade’ for faithful EVO 4G users (including myself):

    *ScreenshotIt! no longer works
*Monopoly by Hasbro no longer works
*Speech to Text recognises voice 10% of the time and usually only one word out of 10-15 actually shows up.
*Slowed stock browser down about 30%
*Compass features no longer able to be accessed
*No new keyboard like was promised
*No change to promised revision of camera interface in Gingerbread 2.3
*No new Sense UI (in fact it FCs) alot and freezes (white screen with green HTC). Never used to with SAME configuration
*Netflix for EVO in Marketplace no longer works
*Less features on power hold than 2.2
*EVO DID get a new battery icon slightly in bar and a ‘done/go’ button in SWYPE & a downloads app that seems to sensor the things you download and breaks APKs that aren’t ‘approved’. Tested this a few times. Also got a fast boot which works 90% of the time.
*EVO did NOT get a new look for the pull down bar (like Droid X got in THEIR Gingerbread)
*…did NOT get new icons (like Droid X got in THEIR Gingerbread)
*…did NOT get new dock etc on homescreen (like Droid X got in THEIR Gingerbread)
*…did NOT speed up system overall (like Droid X got in THEIR Gingerbread)
*and finally for all you rooters.. Broke the ability to root….period.

Basically we got a few upgrades that could have been popped into a small firmware upgrade. And we got alot of downgrades to even worse than Froyo in alot of ways. Thank you (Sprint? HTC? Android? IDK!) for ripping out all the joy of Gingerbread that others got and baking in some poison… (so that we’ll buy EVO 3D?..not likely). You didn’t even upgrade us to Sense 2.0.. That’s bad business and poor, greedy management. Get get get.. never give really in return. Once you’ve bought, make them feel happy.. til you’ve got enough standing elsewhere.. then let them go.

    • I hear you!!! They’re greedy fricken scrooges, once they’ve got all the sales they can out of a product they toss the product a side and never think of it again a long with the customers that bought that product!! How long have all of us Evo users been waiting for this “upgrade”, and then its here!!! Only to find that you’re more f’ed than you were in the first place! Doesn’t it make you feel taken care of for your, well I don’t know about you but, $94-95.00 a month????!!!!! What in the hell have the developers working on this thing been doing anyways?? I think they had PLENTY of time to through together a damn update! I mean did they get paid for this, or what?

  6. yea i have my EVO the way i want it, extended battery, rooted, the free wireless tether (HotSpot), netflix, shreenshot app “shoot me”, and oh so much more…. i was so happy the update didnt install because i was rooted, otherwise i would have been so pissed off. why would i un-root my phone(which is kind of a pain in the ass), install 2.3, then lose the ability to root again, and lose all the cool stuff i can do?… not a effing chance, Android….. if you people want a new keyboard, dpwnload one from the market! there are so many! i use better keyboard 8… works nice for me, i have the iphone keyboard one too so the transition from my iPod touch to my evo was smooth. battery life sucks? get the battery, it actually makes the phone sit better in your hand, and 18+ hours is way better than 6 in my opinion. if you have already upgraded, then im sorry, if not… i would stay away!

      • well, if you didnt make the mistake of updating to Android 2.3, then use UNREVOKED. its a 10 second download, once you have it, its just a matter of plugging your phone in and hit start. took me about 30 seconds. google it, you’ll find about a million threads on ROOT

  7. So Sprint want me to pay to change the phone they broke or upgrade and commit for another two years!!!  Upgrade to what exactly?  I am surprised that there has not been talk of a class action suit over this debacle.
