HTC’s upcoming smartphone in the DROID DNA sure looks exciting. Late last week we received our first official press render and official leak of the new 5-inch 1080p HD smartphone phablet and over the weekend we received another. Not only that but a few rumors are stating a December 6th release date for HTC’s new flagship.

Our pal on Twitter known as @evleaks has delivered once again, giving us an even bigger HD picture of the upcoming HTC DROID DNA. Which you might also remember being called the Incredible X, or the dlx. This 5-inch 1080p smartphone with a blazing 440 ppi display, quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM and more is officially headed to Verizon with 4G LTE.

We’ve heard plenty about this phone over the recent weeks. The HTC J Butterfly, but for Verizon Wireless and possibly others. According to multiple leaks the DROID DNA will in fact come with 16 and 32GB of storage options. Then Verizon and HTC opted for a larger 2,500 mAh battery in this model, something I’m glad to see although still believe it could easily be bigger.

The Galaxy Note was 2,500, and the new Note II is 3,300 so clearly Samsung has made the right choice. Hopefully HTC does the same but we’ll have to wait and see. Since revealing the image back on Friday we’ve received a few tips the HTC DROID DNA will arrive on Verizon Wireless come December 6th for $249. Previous rumors suggested $199 though. As usual, nothing is final until Verizon says so themselves and we could see a different price, and a later date as they’re usually in no rush to the market. Stay tuned for more details on this impressive looking phablet from HTC.

  1. This is what I am holding out for. I currently have an Incredible2. I’ve handled, with consideration, the GS3, iPhone5, RAZR-M, RAZR MAXX HD, and a Note2 (Sprint). They all left me wanting in the software, be it lacking text reflow in the browser,a “less than” keyboard, weak text prediction, etc. I mean, they’re ok… pretty nice, even but they didn’t wow me. I TRIED to be wowed by the RAZR MAXX HD’s 3,300mAh battery. Who wouldn’t. Having had a DINC and now the DINC2, I feel spoiled by the usefulness of the Sense overlay. I know some hate it but I happen to love it.

And I think the 5″ size will be at the outer limit of size for my preference. The RAZR HD & SG3 are a nice size and this DNA is close enough to the same size they are. The Note-2 seemed pretty dog-gone big, ad it is but it is hard to get a good FEEL for a phone in the store with those huge bulky security devices and the tensioned cable fighting to get the phone back into the display pedestal. I will probably try to make time to spend some time with the Note-2 when it is released on VZW, as the list of S-pen feature seems pretty intriguing to me. That said, the DNA is looking like a no-brainer to me.

    • I’ve had a chance to use it and I think you’ll love it based on what you’ve used and want from a device.

If you feel 5″ is on the outer limit, I think the DNA will be perfect for you as it is not a very wide phone since it just adds height not width (almost exactly the same width as the One X, S3, and other recent 4.7″ devices) which makes it feel much better than the Note. It has a really great curved rubber back that is just very comfortable and form fitting to your hand that makes it feel even smaller than some of those other devices.

I won’t even get into the other specs and such, because I think just reading them does enough.

The changes to Sense 4+ are awesome, and with Jelly Bean…will be a great device, especially since you’re familiar with the DI2.

    • I’m just waiting for confirmation of a microSD slot. I’m reluctantly willing to settle for the nonremovable battery but if Verizon’s version doesn’t have expandable memory I won’t be buying this phone.

  2. Odd how the MAP doesn’t show 2 capacities and shows $199.99, but we are now hearing 2 versions, and only one price which seems odd. Where are the “multiple leaks” With these claims? Also the Galaxy Note II has a 3100mah battery, not 3300mah.
