Who’s ready for another crazy round of HP tablets selling like crazy for the low low price of just $99? New details have now confirmed HP will be having a huge sale on refurbished TouchPads starting at $99 for the 16GB model and going up from there. Sunday December 11th on the HP Ebay Store you’ll get a chance to snag an awesomely cheap tablet — then install CM7 on that bad boy.

Apparently starting December 11th (Sunday) at 6:00 PM Central time the Ebay store will open up and start accepting orders for the refurbished units. I have a feeling things will get a little crazy and they’ll probably sell like hot cakes. Obviously we are an all Android site but we’ve covered the HP TouchPad a few times so be sure to hit up our TouchPad Portal. From there you’ll see information on Android OS installations such as CM7 and more for the TouchPad.

We are hearing there will be limited quantities but I have a feeling they have a pretty big stash. Users will be required to pay via paypal but that shouldn’t be an issue for most that have used Ebay in the past. Although this is awesome news there is a small catch:

— The tablets will be refurbished tablets.
— TouchPads are limited to two per customer.
— All sales are final.
— There is only a 90 day warranty.

I’ll be sure to snag my limit of two if the opportunity presents itself and then install CM7 on it immediately. If you’d like to see a quick demo video of CM7 alpha on the TouchPad then see this post. It was recently updated to alpha 3 and should work quite well for all you current and future TouchPad users.

Who’s buying one?

  1. Just as the sales of the Kindle Fire and the original TouchPad fire sale have already proven, a reasonably priced tablet, even running Gingerbread, can and will sell well.  HP should learn from this and just start loading ICS onto a decently spec’d and priced tablet.  Their brand recognition would help them tremendously, and I believe it would be a home run for them.  Sadly, as good as WebOS may have been, there was just no interest in it.

    • Yes.  Roughly 2500 16G and 7500 32G tablets were sold in about 45 minutes.  The bandwidth devoted to this sale was embarassing!  I made my way to checkout twice and then had to read “shopping cart empty” or “item no longer available” just prior to payment.  Oh well.

  2. This event was worthless.  I was on at 7 pm and it wouldn’t let you “buy now”.  When clicked to “add to cart”, the system froze.  I went as far as to see the item in my basket and by the time I clicked “continue”, it was gone.  You couldn’t refresh your computer or hit the back arrow.  If you did, you were back at square one.

They said that it was only for HP employees and that it would be released to the public this morning (12/12/2011).  Ebay is not an HP employee website, so what made then think that the “public” wasn’t going to see them?  They made it seem like they had a set number available for employees and the public would get the rest.  That was so not the case.  I guess they are all gone, but are they really?

I wanted one for my son, but it isn’t worth the hassel.  If this is a going trend, they will miraculously find some more to put on sale the day after Christmas.
