The Verizon DROID by Motorola may be getting all the headlines today, but we’re already wondering when the smartphone might show up in GSM form.  One such device has already made an appearance in a Tinhte.com video, and while there’s no extra detail about the DROID itself – bar the SIM card – it’s certainly whet our appetites.

Of course, what the video can’t tell us is when the GSM DROID might arrive in the US or Europe.  An AT&T-friendly version has been tracked crossing the FCC’s path already, though, so we’re hoping it’ll be sooner rather than later.

  1. Hmm... makes me reconsider jumping ship from T-Mo to Verizon...
  2. Me too but I'm staying put.(for now)
  3. ummmm that phone is slow!
  4. It got a crappy 550 processor lol, but he did start using it soon as it booted. Mines usually that slow for about 5 mins after boot, then it gets fast.
  5. i have a feeling this phone is gonna be the new ADP
  6. I think the design is growing on me... gonna have to check this out on launch day and get some hands-on play time I hated the design at first and am not particularly fond of Motorola (I would rather have an HTC device) but I am liking the physical design more.

    Two things I noticed :

    1. This thing was SLOW in this video. What gives??

    2. It was still called "Droid" even though it is supposedly a GSM device on a different carrier. (so it looks like the Verizon Droid name is actually Motorola Droid... which will stay put on different carriers as well, even though the Android line on Verizon is supposedly going to be all "Droid _________")
  7. im not crazy about the physical design either something just looks off. Im surprised there's no change from gsm and cdma like the hero.
  8. I like it but for some reason the 4 row keyboard isn't adequate for me.
  9. it is slow because it is probably an older prototype. the kicker(?) plate was blank where the wireless carrier logo should be. compare it to images of the phone with Verizon branding

Four rows is not adequate?! I cannot even think of a device with more than 4 rows... all BlackBerries have 4 rows, and they have the best keyboards on the market, in my opinion (great tactile response, accurate, simple to type on).

The thing I do not like about the keyboard is the rectangle design and the d-pad. I wish the keyboard was offset and that the d-pad was a trackball or some other input device (possibly a trackpad like the new blackberries).

lol have you ever heard of the g1? or maybe the sidekick?

5 row keyboards are the way to go!

count the rows on your laptop/computer (not counting f1-f12) and then get back to me lol

    That is true!! lol

I am perfectly happy with a 4-row keypad on a wireless device though... I am coming from the 'BlackBerry world' so don't hate me, but all of the BlackBerries I have ever used have 4 rows... and their keypads are awesome!
  15. 5 row is definitely better. Dedicated numbers really make things alot easier.
  16. yeah that extra row is very useful
  17. agreed i had the sidekick for awhile and it was the best device i've ever texted on.
