Gresso has just outed yet another Android smartphone that, for all intents and purposes, counts as a nondescript mid-range device. However, what the Gresso Radical lacks in hardware it makes up for with its character and price.

Let’s get the boring specs out of the way first. The Gresso Radical’s hardware sheet sounds like your run of the mill smartphone, with a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor, an unspecified amount of RAM, and 36 GB of storage. It sports a 4.5-inch QHD touchscreen with a resolution of 960×540 pixels. An 8 megapixel camera graces its back, though there is no indication of a front-facing camera. Don’t expect this to be running the latest Android, as it only has Android 4.1 installed. It comes with dual SIM support for helping keep business life separate from one’s social circles.

Of course, buyers are hardly paying for the hardware when it comes to this kind of smartphone. Instead, you will be paying for the supposed materials and craftsmanship that went into its production. The Gresso Radical boasts of a durable titanium case, titanium sensor keys for buttons and a hand-polished miniscule titanium Gresso logo. And to ensure the utmost quality of the product, Gresso puts the Radical through a manufacturing process that takes a grueling 9 hours. That’s not mentioning the fact that 4 hours is put into polishing the case by hand to give it that oh so desirable brushed metal look.

It should probably be no surprise, then, that the Gresso Radical has a starting price of $1,800, with options to have the logo made in 18K yellow gold or 18K white gold for $2,300. Better get your checkbook ready ASAP if you’re interested in grabbing one. Given the laborious process of making one, Gresso will only be making 999 such devices.

  1. It makes me wonder how you apply for the job of case polisher – if that takes up to four hours of hand polishing to give it that sweet metal look. Titanium case, too? I hope that the guy I’ve just met at millionaire match is reading this, as I’d love to have something like this under the tree this year. Just, I wonder with all of the luxury why it isn’t running the latest and greatest.
