We’re dangerously close to the end of 2012, which means that it’s time for another installment of Google Zeitgeist. Google has taken all of the biggest search terms from the year and compiled them into one big showcase, splitting up terms into categories like athletes, feature films, consumer electronics, and Google+ hashtags. There’s also a little Android-flavored Easter egg hidden among the lists for those who don’t mind doing a little bit of looking.

Starting off right off with some of the lists, the iPad 3 managed to take the top spot in the consumer electronics ranking, with the iPad 3 taking third. It wasn’t only Apple products in the top three, however, as the Samsung Galaxy S III managed to work its way into second place. That isn’t bad at all, especially when you consider that Apple products are some of the most hyped devices each and every year.

For the list dedicated to Google searches in general, Whitney Huston came in at number one. She was followed by searches for Gangnam Style at second and Hurricane Sandy at first. #SOPA was the most-used Google+ hashtag of the year, which was joined in the top three by #Awesome and #HurricaneSandy. Of course, there are plenty of other lists to check out over at the Google Zeitgeist page, with the company even putting together a PDF file featuring all of its top ten lists.

Then we come to the Android-themed Easter egg hiding among the lists. If you scroll down to the bottom of the Zeitgeist page and hover your cursor over the colored bar you see in the lower right corner, you’ll be greeted by the little guy you see above. You can’t tell from the picture, but it should be obvious what he’s doing based on his attire: Gangnam Style, baby. No, it doesn’t seem like Gangnam Style will be going away anytime soon, so we might as well get used to it folks.
