When Google released a video on YouTube as part of Android’s “be together, not the same” marketing campaign, some thought their use of a piano tuned to just one note pretty cool, while some found it, errr, monotonous. Now we wonder what the latter group of people will say as Google has just released an album based on that ad, with 10 tracks available and all just playing in the Middle C note. Yes, it’s an actual thing, and the good thing is it’s free.

The album is simply titled Monotune (Monotune Piano by Android) and it may be something you should not play when you’re trying to be creative or even trying to relax. Well, unless monotonous songs help you actually relax. It’s an album composed of 10 tracks, some of which are well-known classical arrangements, while some are just simple. childhood ditties. There’s even a bonus track with Hot Buns, which, if you’ve ever learned to play piano, you should know by heart. And of course all of them are just in middle C, which will probably drive you crazy after a while.

The original ad featured pianist Ji-Yong Kim, playing on both a regular piano and then one that was reengineered so that it was only playing one note and that is Middle C. This was to emphasize that just the same of everything is actually boring and so we must enjoy this whole idea of variety (meaning a lot of Android phones) as the spice of life.

The Monotune 10-track album is available to download for free of course through Google Play Music. Because of course, no one would want to pay for that right?
