Google held an Android Developers Challenge and handed out lots of prizes shortly after the Android OS was launched. Google is now gearing up for the next developers challenge that will offer $2 million in prizes to winners.

The second challenge has a different format than the original had and the Android community will play a role in picking winners. Starting in late August a voting application will be published on the Android Market that will let users sample submissions for the contest.

The users will then be able to vote for the best application and there will be 200 finalists selected in ten categories. The original contest had only 50 finalists. The voters will pick the top 20 apps in each category and then a second round of voting will start in October with users using the voting program to score the finalists. Google judges will get 55% of the final vote and the community will get 45% of the final vote to determine the winners.
