The topic of what the next version of Android will be has been heavily discussed since Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich was released, and before. Today however some new rumors and screenshots have appeared that supposedly confirm Android 4.1 Jelly Bean will be the next iteration of Android. We’ll probably know for sure come next week at Google IO but lets look at the details.

I’ve tried this same thing more than a few times without any luck, but the folks from Droid-Life went to purchase the Galaxy Nexus from the Google Play Store and upon checkout the phone was titled as the “Galaxy Nexus HSPA+ – The latest smartphone from Google, soon the first phone with Android 4.1 Jelly…” Pretty interesting right? I’m not getting the same result and that could easily, easily be faked but it sounds pretty legit. We’ll see.

During checkout the thumbnail for the device shows the image (blown up) shown above. Obviously with a different background wallpaper and launcher changes with the frosted Google Search widget — just like we saw in Google’s official IO 2012 app yesterday. Both of those are different from the current version available today. It looks like we’ll probably be seeing Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and the rumored Nexus 7-inch tablet at Google IO, followed by the Galaxy Nexus with 4.1 immediately or soon thereafter for sale in the Play Store.

Did you get the same results when you add the Nexus to your cart?

  1. What the hell happened to the searchbox? please tell me that they are not making the background greyscale. I’ll be terribly upset if I can’t change that to remain the same color as the background.
