More often than not, when you enter a destination in your Google Maps and start navigating, you don’t always go in a straight line. Just like life, there are a lot of side trips and detours that happen for unexpected reasons. Now you don’t need to keep erasing your destination every time you take a detour. The latest update to the navigation app allows you to add detours and also check out the gas prices along your route so you can get the best deal.
When you tap on the magnifying glass at the top right corner of your screen, you will get a drop-down menu with the following detour options: gas stations, restaurants, grocery stores, coffee shops, and if what you’re looking for doesn’t fit into any of those categories, you can always choose the search for more places option. When you click on any of the icons, it will show you the ones near your area or along your route, and you can add that detour to your navigation. You can also use voice commands to add a detour.
If you choose gas stations, you can also see the various gas prices of the ones near your area so that you will not feel “cheated” if after you’ve gassed up, you’ll realize that the station two blocks away is $5 cheaper. Because of this new feature, you won’t get stressed (or at least you get a little less stressed) in case you forgot that wine your wife asked you to buy or you need a dose of caffeine before you head to your next meeting.
The update is still slowly rolling out to users. You can check the Google Play Store page if the update has already reached you.
