Dates for Google I/O have officially been announced, with Chrome and Android chief Sundar Pichai posting them via his Google+ profile. Taking place June 25th and 26th 2014, Google I/O falls quite a bit later in the year than we’re used to. The registration method has also changed, which is a welcome sign for anyone who has tried to sign up in the past.

Aside from registration, Google doesn’t seem to be messing with the program at all. You can still view it remotely, and will still have the ability to visit several offsite events. The website for I/O is the same as it has been, too.

Registration, though, will see a tweak. It’s still bit random, but has a touch more structure to it. Via the post, Pichai has the following to say about registration:

Also, quick note for those who want to join in person: this year we’re making some changes to registration, so you won’t need to scramble the second registration opens. We’ll be implementing a new system, where you can submit your interest to attend Google I/O 2014. Successful applicants will then be randomly selected and notified shortly thereafter. We’ll be following up with more details from +GoogleDevelopers, so stay tuned.

To us, it sounds like Google is making allocations for a certain number of Developers, media, and casual observers. Normally, the conference houses about 5,000 folks. Meant as a Developers’ conference, I/O often has quite a fe fans who just want to get swag on the cheap, or first. We hope the lions’ share of attendees are Developers this time around, and Google reduces the number of non-devs in attendance.
