In the past, Google has made a habit of giving employees some great thing around the holidays. Last year it was the choice of a Chromebook, Motorola phone, or a Nexus 7 (the Nexus 4 was, well, out of stock). The year before, a custom Galaxy Nexus. This year? Their choice of a new Nexus 5, or Nexus 7.

This comes to us courtesy of 9to5Google, who noticed a family member of an employee discussing it openly. Google hasn’t come right out and said as much, and there has been no random glee on Google+ about it that we’ve seen, but it makes sense. Google is one of the more generous companies to work for.

This would mark the first time that both Nexus devices were on offer for employees via the holiday giveaway, too. With Google underestimating the popularity of the Nexus 4, supply ran out — and stayed out for some time. It wasn’t until February after launch that the device was reliably in the Play Store. This year, Google has taken the necessary precautions, and the Nexus 5 stands in stark difference to last year’s charade.

Both devices prove to be some of the best on offer for Android, so we’re happy to see Googlers with them in-hand this holiday season. We love the lightness of the Nexus 5, and the screen on the Nexus 7 is vibrant and smooth. Either would be a good choice, so it’s really a win-win situation for Googlers!
