If you’ve been using the Google Fit app to keep up with your fitness goals, you might get disoriented a bit when you update the app. That’s because it has undergone a major visual redesign, but it should not affect its functionalities that you’ve gotten used to. In fact, it will give you better options for goal-setting as well as a new widget which will give you more options as well. Once you get the hang of the new app, you should be able to enjoy using it again.

When it comes to the look of the app, you’ll now be able to see more colors, bigger images that fill the screen, as well as more data and charts for your various fitness activities. Things just look different but you will still be able to find what you need previously (we hope) and there is more information on the screen than the previous one. You also now will get a timeline screen which is basically a log of your daily activities. If you’re a very physical person then you would probably be proud to look at all your activities but if not, you just might realize how lazy you really are.

So this means you should start setting up some goals so your timeline will eventually look nice and active. With the update, you get a lot more configuration options for goals, including different fitness metrics and activities. You can also set goals per day, per week, or per month and you can set more than one goal per time period as well. Just click on the Floating Action Button to start a new goal. You also have a new widget that will show you a graph of any of the goals that you’ve set.

In terms of Android Wear support, you have a new watchface called Google Fit Today and it looks like your traditional watchface with four “complications” that actually represent the basic metrics like calories burned, steps taken, etc. You can now update to the latest version using the APK (signed by Google). But if you want to wait for the update, then you’d just have to twiddle your thumbs while doing so.
