Android is tearing up the mobile phone marketplace with new handsets running the OS coming out left and right. The handsets have proven to be so popular that carriers are rushing to get them to market. Google and Verizon Wireless announced a new agreement today that will speed Android devices coming to the Verizon network.

The agreement has the two companies jointly working to develop, market and distribute Android devices on the Verizon network. The devices created under the agreement will come with applications from both companies and third-party developers preinstalled.

Verizon and Google plan to develop several Android devices together and the devices will be built for Verizon by several leading phone makers. The two companies won’t say who those phone makers will be, but my money says Motorola and HTC will be big players.
