New reports have surfaced supposedly from an inside source at Google, confirming the company is preparing to launch their own Amazon Prime or eBay same-day shipping service. My first thought was, “have you seen those Google Play Store shipping times?” but this is something completely different. It’s to be called Google Shopping Express and should battle the competition.

According to reports by TechCrunch Google is not only working on this new service, but it’s also being tested internally by a few Google employees. While we don’t have too many details at the moment, surely more information should surface in due time.

For those unsure of what’s going on here, this is an express or same-day shipping service provided by Google for brick and mortar stores like Walmart, Target, and many others. Just like Amazon Prime same-day or next-day delivery, Google Shopping Express will do the same thing — only cost buyers less money.

Amazon Prime currently runs around $80 a year, and the report claims Google will be offering the same level of service at a cheaper price, potentially $15 less per year than Amazon or others. This will be Google’s new eCommerce push where they’ll have a storefront that will combine Google Shopping and Google Wallet services. Hopefully they could eventually tie Google Play Store Nexus devices into same-day shipping – that would be amazing.

There’s no telling when a full-scale operation will launch from Google, as right now this is just in a testing phase. Surely we’ll let you know the minute we learn more. I won’t be dropping my Prime account anytime soon, that’s for sure.
