There have been widespread reports of an issue on the Nexus Player, particularly with video playback. Now it seems that the Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X smartphones are suffering a similar issue, and it may be something with Android Marshmallow. Nexus Player users have all pointed to the Marshmallow update as the start of this particular issue. Google has admitted the existence of the issue on both counts.

Around October, Nexus Player owners have started complaining about colors being washed out in video playback, and blacks showing up as gray. The strange thing is, it only happens on local video playback, and not with any other apps used. A little bit after, Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X users also reported the same issue. Here now, we finally we have Google’s response:

Hey everyone, We understand the severity of this issue. It’s a widespread problem impacting all Nexus Players on 6.0. We’re working as fast as possible to resolve it.

We also noticed similar problems on Nexus 6P and 5X, as reported in #14; however, those had a different root-cause. Those have been fixed internally, and will be included in a future MR.

It’s good to know that Google is still on its toes, trying to resolve these issues. The priority level for the issue has been changed to “high” and we expect a fix coming out soon. You can check the full thread on the issue on the source link below.

  1. Yeah, maybe they can address or even acknowledge the completely broken music upload feature in Play Music. That could use at least a “fly on a blob of dog sh*t” priority level.

  2. Has this issue been resolved yet? I just got a Nexus 6P and I have problems playing video media received via downloads or whatsapp messenger
