The Chinese mobile phone manufacturer has been around since 2002 but it was only in 2010 when it went full force in the smartphone industry. Since then, it has released dozens of Android phones that surprise and impress the market because of their high specs and affordable prices. One perfect example is the Gionee M3 that comes with a 5000mAh battery and those two M5 variants released last December with the same battery size and fingerprint sensor.

At this year’s MWC 2016, Gionee proudly announced its new brand identity. From the red square logo, Gionee’s logo is now a ‘G’ fashioned as a smiley. You can say it’s a “G:” tipped to the left. It’s really a combination of “i” and “j” that says “I am joyful”. From red, brand color is now orange. It actually looks happy now. The red Gionee logo seemed boring but the new logo appears to be more alive than ever.

Gionee’s new purpose statement is “Make Smiles”. The tagline is very simple. It shows the company’s aim to make people smile with their products and services. Hopefully, with the new brand identity, Gionee’s sales will improve as it plans to expand to more global markets this year.

Under the new identity, Gionee introduced the new S8. The smartphone is targeted for those into mobile photography and videography. Also called as a ‘smilephone’, the Gionee S8 is expected to bring “joy” to the user. It’s ideal for those who like to record videos because of the video and photo-shooting systems.

The Gionee S8 comes with a loop metal design, 3D Touch display, invisible loop antenna, 5.5-inch AMOLED display, 2.5D glass coated screen, WiFi, and 4G. Phone runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box.

The invisible loop antenna allows global roaming with the 17 and b20 full bands and GPS. The smartphone boasts of an advanced camera system with F1.8 aperture and 6P lens making it ideal to take photos even in low-light conditions. There are special features and apps inside like the Full Skin Beauty, Image+ 2.0 software, and Flash Selfie for great photos.

For recording videos, the Gionee S8 uses an AKM4941 HD recording chip and sensitive microphones to capture high quality sound. There’s also a video editor feature that features six sets of professional templates.
