GFXBench is one of the best sources for specs of upcoming devices. You’re never really quite sure of which device it is – the manufacturer’s coded names makes sure of that – but you can take an educated guess. And because of the way the benchmark works, we’re given a pretty good picture of what the device is capable of – like this new device from Sony which just might be the Xperia Z4 Compact.

Sony has made it a point to create a smaller version of its flagship phones, usually tagged with the “Compact” suffix. With the release of the Sony Xperia Z4 in Japan (Xperia Z3+/Z4v in other markets), it’s right about time to start asking if Sony will be creating a smaller, more compact version of the flagship – and with this GFXBench leak, it might not be that far away now.

The data in the GFXBench results are for a device coded as “Sony E5663”. It sports a 4.6-inch full HD (1080p) display, which sounds about right for the Xperia Z4 Compact. It is powered – quite surprisingly, but maybe not that surprising – by a MediaTek MT6795 chipset, clocked as an octa-core processor at 1.9Ghz, plus a PowerVR G6200 GPU. This will be supported by 3GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage, with possibly microSD expansion.

To round out the specs, you have a pretty powerful camera spec – a 20MP/13MP camera combo, which equals the trend of high-spec front-facing cameras these days. This sounds like a very capable device indeed. We hope to see more of it soon.

  1. Compact’s ALWAYS have microsd slots. I should know, I’ve (proudly) owned both Z1 and Z3. Curious about the change in chipset, though it makes sense as the 810 clearly overheats. Just wonder why the Z3+/Z4 has the smokydragon 810… It only makes the Compact line stand out more as, in my opinion, overall hands-down the best smartphone out there.
