Since the announcement of Bing on some of Verizon’s handsets many people want Google search back on their Android phones. Now that is possible on the newly released Fascinate with just a third-party launcher and a single download. This does not require root and brings native Google search and voice search back to the homescreen.

To download:

  • Download the EnhancedGoogleSearchProvider.apk and place it on your SD card
  • Install to your device using a file manager
  • In a third-party launcher (ADW or Launcher Pro), place the Google search widget back to you homescreen.

It is as simple as that, Google will now be your search engine on your homescreen without any serious OS tweaking.

Note: Although the search button will remain to open Bing officially, you can also get the dedicated search button on the device to work with Google, however, this does require a root. To do this:

  • Navigate to /system/app
  • Rename “I500_BingSearchAndroid_07152010.apk” to “I500_BingSearchAndroid_07152010.old”
  • Reboot
