Gameloft had been talking about immersive mode back in December, however at the time there wasn’t anything firm in terms of when the game updates would begin. Immersive mode was a new API that arrived with Android 4.4 and essentially, it just removes some of the distraction from the screen.

Games, or other apps that take advantage of immersive mode will have the navigation panel and notification bar hidden. So, along with removing some of the distraction, this means the app will be taking full advantage of the screen real estate. Anyway, that having been said, it seems Gameloft has quietly begun rolling this out with an update to Asphalt 8: Airborne.

This update is already available in the Play Store and along with the immersive mode, there was also mention of some “minor” bug fixes. Also worth noting, only those playing on a device running Android 4.4 Kit Kat will have this feature available. In addition to Asphalt 8, Gameloft also has plans for immersive mode with other titles.

These others aren’t expected to be updated until sometime a bit later this month, or possible in February. But while there may be a few more weeks of waiting here, there is a decent size list of games expected. Gameloft has announced plans to update the following titles with immersive mode;

Blitz Brigade, Dungeon Hunter 4, Gangstar 4, GT Racing 2, Heroes of O&C, Order & Chaos, Order & Chaos Duels, Six Guns and Total Conquest
