Samsung Galaxy S6 edge

The Galaxy S6 edge has been reviewed, tested, and praised a lot the past few weeks already. The latest flagship phone was released only last April 10 for eager Samsung fans. We don’t know the exact number now but we learned there where 5 million people from all over the world who pre-ordered for the dual-edged smartphone. It’s a bit more expensive than the Galaxy S6 but it works just the same. The only difference is the display screen that curves on both sides which is unique–a first for any smartphone.

Since the screen is “unique”, phone is sold with a premium price. The Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge entered the market to compete with the iPhone 6. There are other premium flagship phones the two new Samsung phones can rival but the iPhone 6 is closer and more worthy.

Research firm IHS recently did a teardown analysis. The researchers found out that the Galaxy S6 edge is even more expensive to build and assemble compared to the iPhone 6. Another teardown also showed that the same Samsung model is difficult to repair.

The report says Verizon’s 64GB version of the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge cost $290 to build–$34 more expensive than last year’s Galaxy S5. The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus were analyzed to cost only $247 and $263 to build. With the $290 estimate, Samsung is profiting roughly $400 for every Galaxy S6 edge unit. The $699 price of the S6 edge is only for the 64GB version from Verizon. Other models from other carriers are even more expensive so imagine how much money Samsung is making for every phone sold.

It really costs more to build gadgets now what with the prices of materials increasing in recent years. The Galaxy S6 edge may be cheaper to buy compared to an iPhone but it costs Samsung more to build mainly because of the curved touchscreen display wrapping around both sides of the smartphone. The touchscreen elements and the display combined already cost $85. Samsung’s very own Exynos 7 processor is $29.50 and it required higher memory chips as well, thus, the 3GB DDR4 memory which is $27. The $25 64GB flash memory is also made by Samsung.
