Default Twitter, but don't want SMS

I want to get twitter notifications on my phone, but I don't want to have them sent to my SMS address b/c I'm cheap and went the 400 msgs/month route. How do I tell twitter to sent messages to a regular (gmail) account?

I use Locale to do auto updates on Twitter. BTW - I set up the Twitter app on Facebook so now Locale updates my Facebook status as well!

So using the Twitroid app won't count towards MMS messages, it just uses internet?

Twidroid uses your internet connection, it does NOT use SMS or MMS.

What's even better: the newer versions (last 3 revisions or so) utilize background processing, meaning you are notified of events that you choose: all tweets, replies, or just direct messages to you. You can set Twidroid to check every 3, 5, 10, or 15 minutes (or only manual updates).

    I love this app.

Also supports taking pictures with the camera to add to your tweets via Phodroid. VERY cool.

The only problem I noticed with Twidroid's background notifications is my battery life tanked when I used it. How has your battery handled it so far?

I've been using Twidroid with background-notifications since the first day it was in the market, and haven't noticed any changes in battery life. Here's what I have running:

Twidroid in background, 15 minute checks for: Tweets, Replies, Direct Messages (not public timeline)
    GPS ON
    Bluetooth/WiFi OFF
2G networks ONLY (don't have 3G in St. Louis)
    GMail of course using Push
GTalk logged in all the time

My battery easily lasts me ALL DAY. I usually unplug at 5:30 AM, and still have ~20% left when I plug in at ~10:30 PM.

    I love this phone.

I would still like my incoming tweets to go to my email address. Twitroid takes too long to start up, and quite frankly, I like the "one inbox for everything" mentality. That way I can search it like everything else and interact with it the same way I do with email. It seems strange to me that there isn't an option built into twitter when setting up devices to say "this device can accept email so please send regular email instead of SMS".

    Try this out: TwitterMail

I think there is also a way to interact with Twitter via Google Talk. If that's the case, all of those Tweets would be searchable in your GMail app as well, as all Google Talk conversations are saved into your GMail account.

I am sorry that my first entry here is so stupid...

How do you get to the blankity blank settings in twidroid? I just installed it today and like it.

BTW: was the name changed because of the TWIT podcast network?
