The G1 camera stinks

I can believe that such a fancy phone has such a crappy camera. I have had many many phones and by far this is the one with the crappiest camera

I'm not a big complainer around here, but I have to say, I totally agree with the OP, in that I'm just a bit shocked at the camera.

I either carry my regular digital camera with me, or even my old Blackberry for any unplanned shots I might come across. Even with Snap Photo, I'm surprised at how bad the camera really is.

I agree, even though RC33 has made noticeable improvements to the camera, it is still laggy.

For real pictures, I use Bratag's SnapPhoto Pro (yes, it's a paid app, though there is a free version, Snap Photo). I have it set to default, and although other apps that make use of the camera (Barcode Scanner, SnapTell, ShopSavvy, etc) don't automatically use it, SnapPhoto is a much better camera application than the default.

Definitely worth the $0.99.

The g1 camera doesnt stink thats to nice of a word. The g1 camera sucks . the g1 camera is horrible,,the g1 camera is terrible. i dont even take pics anymore bc its that bad. And fanboys can stick up for it but there is no exsuse for having such a bad camera.

I hate the fanboys too, i agree the camera is crap, the whole phones a bodge. Though i am impressed with the browsing experience.

Let me address this fanboy thing once and for all....
Of the 11,000+ members (5000+ active) here on AC some of us have been around more than 2 weeks and have already read the more than 112,000 posts on this site on all topics about our phone. And while most of us are truly happy to help a new fellow G1 owner out with questions, it gets especially tedious when you join our community and the first thing you have to say is a negative statement that has been posted and agreed with over a hundred times. The g1 has a crappy camera? Oh that's late breaking news? What do you mean had I used the search button, I would have found the 23 threads on this topic already? You mean I would have found out one of our members was fed up with the camera too and wrote a 5 star application on the Market to address some of these issues?(Thanks Bratag) Plain and simple, it's like this, first impressions count. Don't be the member seen as only having joined to complain. Nobody likes that guy. If you have something to say, please do. That's what we are here for. If there is any question on board ettiquette, remember the golden rule....don't fart at a tea party.

Do: Hey guys, my camera isn't what I expected, I'm having (specific problem) and I used the search but couldn't find the answer. Help?
Don't: The G1 sucks. The camera sucks. I'm going back to my (other crappy phone that's the reason I went to the G1 in the first place).
