Default Rogers lack of support for Android devices.

Since October 1st, 2009, HTC released the 1.6 update for the Android operating system on most of their products. However Rogers is a step behind and is not releasing the update to their customers. Both their technical support and customer service really have no idea when, where or even if the update will ever be released.
The community of concerned Rogers customers has started a petition for existing (and possibly new) Android users to be able to voice their concerns. Rogers sold us all a product and should provide support and any and all updates provided by the manufacturer, despite the fact that they may deem the product old and or obsolete.
Even if you are not Rogers customer or don't reside in Canada we appreciate your support.
To show your support you can leave your comment at this page, or contribute to Rogers Dream 1.6 Update thread on Android forum or Rogers & Android: When the Carrier is the Bottleneck blog and finally sign this petition.
Thank you for your support. At the and the entire Android community will benefit.

Not everybody is comfortable rooting the phone.
We also think that Rogers customers do deserve proper support.

nobody is comfortable rooting a phone for the first time . i took months to decide to root ! and , anyways , you do deserve support from you provider , thats just not fair !

I'll take you up on that. As for Rogers or any provider in Canada I never expect much in the way of service but do expect to pay the most in the world and then be forgotten after they get my money. I'm not as vocal about it as my brave brethren but appreciate their efforts.

So, I'm already rooted (Rogers Magic) and am running the Hofo ROM which is still v1.5. It is doing well and a step up from the Rogers boring ROM but I'm interested in hearing what my options are around here. I haven't yet browsed around and done my due diligence but any quick notes are appreciated. If I can go to v1.6 that would be exceptional.

I agree that Rogers needs to get on the ball but I'm not ready to fight them over it yet. It hasn't been that long yet and Canada is on a weird time zone it seems so these things can take a while to cross the border.

hrmm, thanks for the link. With so many devices and so many providers doing different things not to mention so many people doing things with ROMs it is a real jungle out there. And of course the usual linux style confusion and assumptions. I've been running linux for a decade and I'm nervous about rooting my phone so can you imagine the rookies...... rhetorical, I'm sure you've heard it all including people with no useful reason to root much less any patience to do it right..

I'm heading over now to see what this is. If it is v1.6 I might take a stab at it. Otherwise the Hofo is pretty nice once you fix all the chinese I ended up with. The keyboard was difficult to use until I got it back to normal. I still have a small issue with Scandinavian characters showing up as chinese characters but everything else is running nicely so far.

sorry to hijack the thread gnugu. Keep up the pounding on Rogers, they deserve it and I hope you can do some good. I gave up on them many years ago, they haven't learned any lessons yet it seems.
