    Default Outlook v Google

Any thought out there on how the Google combination stacks up against Outlook. One of the early decisions is to switch to Google Contacts, Calendar etc or to wait for someone to get us the exchange link. I see the advantages of push email but that's just with a Google email and I don't intend to change my email just for this.

I have always been obsessed with Outlook but I gave Google a try since I ordered the G1 and I love it!! The calendar is actually better and has more options that I like. The contacts could be a little better but its fine.

So I am sticking with Google

I like gmail for a bunch of reasons.
My email gets checked constantly if i keep the window open. no clicking send/receive.
Theres almost no chance of viruses coming through because everything is scanned before it even gets to my computer.
Spam is auto-filtered, i never had to do anything to block it and i rarely get spam even though i have a few publicly displayed email addresses forwarding to it.
With gmail you can also send emails from any email address (as long as you own it) and nobody will know the difference unless they look at the email header which is always hidden. basically, you wont have to change your email address just set it up to forward to your gmail acct and then link them.
Setting up 'rules' is much much simpler with gmail. My emails are all neatly organized into 'folders' as they come in. gmail actually uses filters and labels to do this and it ends up being a simpler and more powerful tool.
i can check my entire email archive from any computer with internet access which i could never do when using outlook. I have almost 42,000 emails in my gmail account now, been using it to do business for over 3 years now, and i'm only at 26% of my usable space.
It has never been down for more than a few minutes and even then its only been down a handfull of times since i've started using it.
I actually never use the contact list because it stores every email address it sees and brings up and auto-complete list as soon as i type a letter. I'm actually going to have quite a bit of work to do when i go and do my contact list for the G1.
IMO, there is no better email client out there. It does everything i need it to do and is accessible anywhere.

I was an Outlook fan until I met Google... The google calendar is great, but the contacts app is kinda cheese IMO.

Just switched from using outlook and I must say google calendar makes things very quick and easy! Only thing its lacking is a task list which I used pretty extensively in outlook. I've found an addon that creates a "task list" but I haven't tried it out myself yet.

I'm sure with the launch of android, Google will be adding their own task list pretty soon. As for the contacts organizer in gmail, nothing special, but it works for me.

I dropped Exchange for Google apps. So far it's been great. The flexibility and ease of access that having everything in the cloud gives me is worth the few things that I do miss from Exchange/Outlook. The way Google handles contacts is rather crude, and I miss tasks, but other than that it works great for me. I think that as Google Apps grows in popularity, we'll see those features added on, and of course, since this is done in the cloud as well, those features will just magically appear one day when Google gets around to it.

This is definetly the main reason I was excited about the G1. Having my Google-centric world in hand at all times is gonna be great!

As I've mentioned before, I don't really see full Exchange support in the cards for the G1.
