with no 3g it will take you 5x as long to get information.. and with no gps you'll be 10 blocks less accurate..
Can't argue about the 5.99/mo price, but since it's not sanctioned, theres no telling if you'll always be able to get that deal..
Well, my Nov 10th preorder just got here. I played with the phone this morning, and honestly, if TMobile had shipped it out earlier, before I had had a chance to pick up an Iphone for 200 on Craigslist, Unlock, and Jailbreak it, they would have had my contract extension.
I do like the phone. I really like the keyboard, I don't mind flipping it open to type, it's nice having real keys, coming from my Blackberry Curve.
The GPS had me about two blocks off from work, yes, this was after turning it on, maybe the sat's didn't pick me up.
I honestly think it's the best phone T-Mobile has to offer, and like I said, if I didn't have access to a brand new iphone for 200 bucks, I definatly would have kept the G1 for 179.
Yes, it is plain. It's not going to hold a candle next to the Iphone in looks, but we all knew that first.
The setup took 30 seconds at most, and all of my contacts were in and ready to go.
The internet is faster than my Iphone.
Big deal for me is the G1 data pricing. 25 - 35 bucks, compared to my 5.99 Tzone iphone hack. I'm a paycheck to paycheck guy. 20 bucks helps.
Tried the bar scanner twice. Scanned a pack of paper, and it showed up as a 6 pack of action figures. Okkaaaayyy..
Anyhow, as I said, I'm sure the Android OS will be great. Is this G1 for me? Since I have the Iphone for the same price, no it isn't. I would never go to ATT for an iphone, but since it's able to be unlocked for Tmobile, and I can get full data for 5.99.. well that's a tough bargain to pass up. I do miss having some kind of blinking light to let me know when the Iphone has a message or email or missed call on the lockscreen, I tend to miss texts because of that. Is the G1 worth the price of 179? Definatly. For all of you who are enjoying it, great
Here's a few screenies of my Iphone theme, I really like it, wonder if someone could do the same for the G1?
OH, and I am no way an apple fanboi. I can't strand the Mac OS, I own a Dell XPS 1530. I just like a product that looks nice, and works well for me. To each his own.

The 5.99 hack has worked for quite some time. If they every do fix it, data is 20 bucks a month for non G1 phones. And my area will not have 3g with T-Mobile till mid-late next year according to reps. Hopefully by then they will have a nicer Android phone available, something a little less boring looking than the G1.
thats cool man as long as ur happy with ur phone. I am sure enjoying my g1. Glad to see your enjoying your iphone. My friend hates his, no mp3 ringtones, no lights telling him he had a phone call or text. No MMS. He wants to sell it lol
If cost is the problem then I hear ya, by all means save your self some money to pay the bills or w/e.
Side by side, The iPhone beats the G1. I would have an iPhone as well but I was holding out on the notion that the G1 would offer UMA over the T-mobile network (similar to their other smartphones). Sadly, this was left out of the G1.
I am happy with my G1. In time, we will see new phone models, new apps and new software releases which potentially could become the very best platform.
hmm, this might be a good plan for my wife.. she doesn't need 3g and all that jazz and i do agree iphones are easier to navigate. Me. I'm loving my G1.
The problem I AM having with the iphone is people are saying they hear echoes when they call me.
And it seems everytime I am doing something with data, I can't receive phone calls, which is driving my GF completely crazy.
Can anyone using EDGE on a G1 confirm that you will get calls while browsing the internet?
