That's some interesting propaganda your teacher is feeding you there.
:]
I pretty much learned a lot today in my little introduction to computer class tonight and I think if you don't know you might enjoy knowing.
Not saying I really know anything or am trying to teach anyone anything, but from what I took from the lesson.
We talked about how the computer works and the whole "FAT" format of things which was interesting, then about ROM which tells the computer what to do and what not.
Then RAM, and its a fun class because of my g1, mainly because I'm always making connections from what I've done to it compared to a computer and what you can do with it.
Technically its all just 8Bit technology. But still very fun.
But mainly what was interesting to know was that we talked about Microsoft, Apple, and Linux.
Microsoft makes money because it makes terrible products like windows 98, 2000, Xp, Vista, and continue to push out patched and updates which creates the whole "Oh this version will be what its said" And the market booms and booms and booms from people that keep buying there terrible products.
Mind you when Windows 7 comes out I dare you to call them and see if there phones and support are up, they ALWAYS have shut them down because EVERYONE in EVERY COUNTRY is calling and cursing at them at the terrible product or how they need help.
[I personally like what windows 7 is becoming UI wise, in relation to a phone its like HTC's new Touch Flow [was it?] compared to the normal boring Windows Mobile UI]
Then Mac's are interesting and a neat computer. They're pricey but they support you and back you up, you're mac broke? Take it to an Apple store they'll fix it right up.
Its always said that Mac's don't get viruses and that's not true, they're just as vulnerable as p.c.'s its just that Macs are a small target where as Microsoft runs the whole world and lets face it, if you could happily throw a grenade at a building would you throw it at a small sound building? Or a large shaky building that's supporting many floors? [Mind you you could do this with a good conscious knowing nothing bad would become of it]
Then Linux is just Amazing and free, it just can't be really mainstreamed because its from so many people all over the world that it can't really have a support service for it outside of forums and all.
:]
Anywho theres my two cents! Hope you enjoyed the read.

That's not propaganda. I've known that stuff for several years, and it's been proven true time and time again. Linux ftw!
Another little interesting bit about Apple and PC is how the "pc" market rocketed and apple didn't. It is very comparable to Android and the iPhone. Way back when modern computers were getting started, two companies, IBM and Apple, were competing. IBM, somewhat like google, told other companies how to make pc's and software, while Apple kept their mouth shut. So, as you would expect, a whole bunch of different PCs made by different companies were competing to create and sell their pc (sound familiar? 18 android phones by the end of this year. how many iCraps are there? Oh yeah, 1.), unlike Apple, who tried to sell their computers alone.
And for those who are blind enough to think Macs are invincible:

I guess you could just read in the beginning there was the command line, I think its in dt's sig.
But to say all microsoft products are crap and that apple will happily fix anything is a bit far feteched.
Case in point the 300 plus dollars they wanted to charge me to fix a known defective (they admitted it was faulty on there end) motherboard. And the 60 dollars to replace an ipod that crapped out after two moths.... yeah they'll happily fix anything for a price....
Most of Microsoft's products are very large, very bloated, and very unreliable. Granted, a lot of the problems from Microsoft operating systems are from malicious software or intrusions, there is still plenty that are completely Microsoft's fault. I still don't understand how a company so large could create such unreliable products. For example, Xbox360. How many of those get "red rings of death". It's a fair chance that if you have an Xbox360 that you will get one atleast once. I used to be a Microsoft fan boy but since then I have started to hate Microsoft. Apple is a better with customer service, but still not the greatest. They get to charge a whole bunch because there is no alternative.

I agree with that sort of. I don't use any microsoft products besides xp. Media player is easily replaceable with vlc or foobar. And there's tons of that out there. But as far as virus's run avast with spybot and don't go downloading everything off the internet and its a really solid os.
As for apple I once was a fanboy now I can't stand them.
Yeah, "In the Beginning was the Command Line" is a good read. Just google it, i took it out of my sig.
and I'd like to add that when I was (briefly) a teacher I would have been thrilled to have a student who was so engaged and excited by learning new stuff.
your teacher does not like Microsoft. He/she Sounds like a Linux fanboy cause they have no idea what they're teaching.
The reason why things don't work is because people are stupidand don't follow directions.
