Hang on, Doc, if you don't have the "danger" spl on, its possible to do this without risking it. Firerat over at XDA has instructions on how to flash eclair on you're G1 without it. I remember you were using one of Haykuro's rom's, can't remember if it was one that needed that spl.

I ended up receiving a "new" phone before my one year was up, so I used the one click root app and flashed cyanogen ...... it's been a LONG time!!

Not sure I was really around much when you were active.

I would highly recommend sticking with the carrier that provides the best coverage for the areas you use your device. Having a device with no coverage is useless (IMO)

And, as others have said, upgrade to the latest CM ROM for some sweet improvements!
