    Default Image help?

Would someone that is good at editing images, or creating them, mind helping me with my skinning project?

I am on the last bit, editing some of the last images and I have run across a problem where my images are getting distorted somehow, it might be paint shop pro doing it. At any rate, I am def. not an image person, I don't do graphics very well. If someone could take the images below and change them so that they will display correctly, and reflect what I did to them(meaning the same colors as I changed them to) I would greatly appreciate it.

I have added two zips, one containing the orig images as provided by google and the other contains what I did to them. I would like them to stay the same color....the only ones I hadn't done yet was the grid...something.

Whoever helps me out I will give credit for their contribution in this project. If someone can and will do them, just zip them back to me afterwards.

    thanks,

I'm assuming you want to use your changes with the original colors. I did the second and the third one because the first looks ok to me. Let me know.

this is the second one (original):

Do you want the black border to be a little thicker on the second one?

Ok, first of all thanks to both of you for the help.

Secondly, coyote, your images where exactly what I wanted, except hat they too, as were mine, are getting distorted somehow. I've attached a picture to show. From what I was told, those black bars in the images are borders which should be controlling the text some how. However, from what I understand, paint shop pro is messing them up somehow.

Rogue, actually what I am needing is the images done with no orange at all, or yellow. for my skin I am trying to eliminate this as much as possible. this skin is mostly a black and white skin.

Hopefully we can continue to work together on this until it is finished.

    Thanks again for your assistance.

Those look great, however, they are not fitting correctly....this is driving me crazy....I know Android resizes the images based on the needs of the button. BUT, once an image is edited they never resize right again....I am going absolutely insane dealing with these. Also, through some research I have discovered that the orig images I posted are tainted. They won't work even if you don't mess with them. I am posting the original images again, however, this time they will not have been opened in an editor or otherwise. They will be untouched.

In my experience, once an image is opened and re-saved it wont work right after that. Why? Whats going on? I did this with paint shop pro and photoshop with the same results for everyone of them. It is driving me crazy.

Lets see if we can figure this out. I opened the first original untouched icon in Photoshop and zoomed to 1600% to see whats going on. I'm taking the gradient you see in the middle yellow section is to give the icon a raised 3D look. The same with the lighter faded top.

    The specs in Photoshop are:
    44 width in pixels
    48 height in pixels
72 resolution (maybe this is the problem could have to be higher)

My next question is, if you were to use the original untouched icons that they sent you without making any changes, do they work?

Next question is, do you want no gradients or fading. Solid colors in the middle and solid borders.

Is it possible since you know the specs to start from scratch and make your own, which might eliminate the compression factor.

You mentioned something about those lines outside of the icon. The longer ones on the right and bottom, and the small ones on the top and left. Did you add these?, because the original icon doesn't have them. Are they needed?

Could it be possible that winzip is messing with compression somehow?

You might want to contact whoever gave you the originals and see if they can tell you what program they used to make the originals and all the specs, such as exact image size and resolution, original image file size before they zipped them to you. Also the file format of the originals, were they .png, .bmp, .tif, or what?

Here's a bigger pic of the first original untouched icon:

Wow, first off the originals I sent you do work. I know this for a fact. If I was to push the originals to my phone they would work fine as long as I didn't mess with them. Secondly, I want the images to look the same, just with different colors. Thirdly, I did not add those black bars, I don't know where they came from, but when I repulled the originals from the phone, they were gone, so who knows.

Can't be winzip messing them up because the originals work perfectly if I zip them back up and send them to my phone. Finally, I made some progress, to some effect. First thing is that android can see areas that don't have anything in it, meaning the canvas. So leaving a visible canvas will lead android to belive that this is part of the image and the actual image won't scale correctly. However, no the border is sitting right where the text is. I took the side borders off and tried it and it worked, but now it really doesn't look like a button.

Ultimately, something is happening to the images when we edit them. Something is changing. I don't know what it is. You can't resize the image because that then throws off other buttons. it has to stay the same size, I am positive of this. I don't know whats changing...but that is the problem. The orig. works great, but the second I resave it, even if I didn't do anything to it, it won't work correctly anymore.

Edit: Oh, as far as the dpi goes psp and ps are changing it. The orig is set to 96 dpi (inch) However, I changed it back, and I even changed it to 500, with no effect...so I dunno......

When you say push the originals to the phone, do you mean your sending them thru email or SMS? Because I had the same problem with a wallpaper. I downloaded the wallpaper to the phone with the phones browser and it lost a lot of quality, I then downloaded the same wallpaper to my computer at home and then transfered to my SD card with no very little image loss.

When I say push I mean that I am puting the images back into the apk, resigning it, and pushing the file onto the phone using adb in recovery mode.

This can't be the issue, if it was then the originals would get distorted as well.
