So anyone who follows me on twitter knows what this is referring to. So i was email begging me for help last night while i was working on fixing my laptop. this person was having all kinds of problems so i stopped what i was doing and dedicated a good 2 hours into trying to help them. after constantly being asked "cant you just send me the links?" and "THAT IS WRONG" i finally got pissed off enough to quit helping this person. This is what really pissed me off. THREE more emails of this person come on man i really need help. I normally i will help everyone i can but after contradicting me several times i was done.
So for a lesson for anyone that is trying to help you do what they say.
AND MORE IMPORTANTLY IT IS NOT OUR JOB TO FIND EVERY SINGLE LINK THAT YOU NEED. YOU NEED TO DO SOME OF THE LEG WORK AS WELL ESPECIALLY WHEN WE STOP WHAT WE ARE DOING TO HELP YOU.
btw I THINK THIS SHOULD BECOME THE OFFICIAL BITCHING THREAD
I just read your rant .
Just to let everyone know , we are helping others out of our own free will , we aren't getting paid , we aren't getting compensated in any way . Most of the time I'm working in real life and helping someone here or by email . Personally , I do it because I get a warm , satisfactary feeling in my gut that makes me feel good all over. Because I love android and the community . BUT , anyways , we don't have to help you . We don't have to put up with any cr@p either . Luckily , I'm the type of person than can put up with a lot of cr@p , some others are others aren't . So , if you do need help , please be considerate , we'll be happy to help you .
THats is why i do it. i like the feeling that you helped someone. i might make mistakes but i usually can fix the problems. i can take a lot of cr@p but at some point it gets me yelling at the computer. i made it so anyone can email me becuase i LIKE helping people. and when i do i dont even expect a thanks but when it comes down to people need to learn to be respectful. BTW i love everyone on here. i love this forum but some people need to learn some manners. lol enough from me.
Can I preface this by saying that anyone who's helping out another person on AC is de facto deserving of respect BUT, I didn't know till today that you guys are volunteers! When I read 'staff' in someone's title I assumed it meant that they were employees. Is it even in the faqs that so many volunteers supply the life blood of AC?? (no, I don't need a link!) It should be stated prominently imo.
Lastly, I'm sure that the majority of people here (like me) DO greatly appreciate the tolerance and kindness that's been shown to them. I'd have given up on figuring out my phone if it wasn't for AC
Actually, there are very, very few forums on the internet where the moderators are paid. They are usually just very, very generous people who love what the forum is about and are willing to help out in any way they can. A few forums do have "incentives" for administrators, but in general, most of the "staff" do not get paid a salary. We do try and give them little perks periodically for helping out, and as Ewdi already mentioned in another thread, we need to do a better job of that and showing them how much they truly are appreciated.
