Default Help! Busted pc2monitor connection, what do I do?

Hey guys. First, thanks for any help, I'm on here with my G1 in need of tech help. The cable from the pc to monitor was pulled out of pc, it looks like it took those metal sleeves out that the screws screw into to secure it down. So I can't get it back in and lack the know how to open this up and self repair.

What are my options here to get up and running cheapest or fastest. Gosh my g1 is typing like sentences behind me right now... anyway, just a pc repair shop? Or something else? I have a hdmi out on pc and a dvi-d in on monitor in addition to the vga I was using. I have a tv with hdmi in 50miles away or I think I could just hdmi cable it straight across.. I don't know anyway that tv is too big for my apartment. Can anyone give the noob some guidance? Sorry if any errors I have been done typing this since like the first paragraph and I'm watching it type...weird but thank god for this thing and this forum. Thanks! My wife is freaking she needs her resume off it..

First - you don't need the screws for the connection to work, only to keep the cable from slipping out. So plug it in (have someone hold it in if necessary, just for a few moments to test) to see if you still have video - if not, more than just screws were broken.

You can definitely use the HDMI-out to go to DVI. There are adapters readily available.

The only potential hiccup I can see with using HDMI is that I've heard of some systems where you might need to switch something from within the PC's OS to make it start using the HDMI out (could be a problem if the VGA connector is in fact hosed). Hopefully though yours just outputs through it automatically.

Also, regarding the resume - if all else fails it is possible to take the machine's internal hard drive, put it in another machine, and pull files off of it. I can assist if you're anywhere near Des Moines, Iowa (USA). So you can assure your wife the resume is not lost, even if video output is completely lost.

Oh thanks so much for the reply. I think I need to unfasten those metal sleeves the screws are still screwed in, I had plugged it in and got nothing...but I'm not sure those pieces weren't blocking it from a good connect, so will try tonight.

Hoping just saving tthe data will be worst case, pc seems fine I'm crossing my fingers that this can be solved via hdmi or your method. I wonder if I could get the cable and just return if doesn't work...from best buy or something, hmm..

I'm in Oregon thanks so much for the help.
