Same thing happened to me. I just ended up saving the pictures on the SD card and choosing them from the phone.![]()
I thought I would be uber cool and add photos for my contacts. I figured I could do it faster on the web than on the phone. Well, for some reason, on a few contacts, after I added the photo and everything seemed to be OK, after the page would refresh, the picture would not be there. Now here's the kicker: When I look at the contact on my phone, the picture is there. So, I am posting this in the Off Topic area to see if anyone knows what I might be doing wrong with just a few of my gmail contacts. Most of them are working just fine--it's probably about one out of ten that isn't saving correctly.

Pictures for contacts on the WEB GMail interface ONLY show up if you have an e-mail address for that person saved.
What I did if I don't have an e-mail address for a person is just make one up using their name i.e. "joe@joe.com"
This solved it, and now I have a picture for everyone in my GMail contacts show up.

This is a limitation of the Web interface for GMail, not of the G1 or Android. The GMail web interface just hasn't been updated to show pictures for contacts no matter what. If you add a picture to a contact on GMail without an e-mail address, the picture doesn't show on the web. However, it DOES download and show on the device.
