Any Sidekick experts?

So my wife does not really want/need the G1 and she kinda likes the sidekick because you can change the faceplate to a pink minnesota twins design.

So she does not want the data plan, she would only use it for texting and talking.

But I talked to a t-mobile rep and he said that if you get the sidekick you need the data plan that goes with it because it resets certian things every time you turn it off..

Would you recommend the sidekick without the data plan?

Or should I look at other t-mobile phones for her???

I'm currently using the side kick without the data plan while waiting for my g1 it works fine except you have to manually set the time/date if the battery dies and you can't download ringtones or anything.

Definitely get the data plan. If your phone dies, she will lose everything - contacts, notes, calendar, etc. You can still use the phone without the data plan, but don't use the calendar or contacts or stuff like that. You risk losing them. Oh, and save all contacts to the sim card and to the sim only.

The sidekick data plan, it's just like the G1 without a data plan.
For 20$ a month with a voice plan, you can get unlimited texts, saved contacts, calendar events, notes, etc on the danger service. So if a crash happens you can get all that information back.

Without that data plan, you can't do that. Personally the data plan is the bread and butter of the device... but if she doesn't mind putting in her contacts, each time the battery dies. Then be my guest!

I currently have a Sidekick LX. A sidekick with no data plan is like an egg with out the yoke...its just not right!...LOL Get her another phone if she dont want a data plan.

my little cousins have sidekick slides without the data plan. Basically all you can do with the sidekick with no data is make calls and text. btw u might lose all data if u reset or turn off the phone, so id say if she wants a pretty skin buy a phone that has a skin she likes other than the sidekick =]

Yeah I agree with the replies, The Sidekick just isn't a Sidekick W/out the Plan. Plus its a pain in the a** to troubleshoot when you don't have it. (only for certain issues though)

Plus I'd be careful of Slides breaking on you. I've had cust. on their 4TH AND/OR 6TH Slide and want a different phone, And can only get a BB Pearl, Then get a Sup. which says the same dang thing I said, and hangs up.

Oh well guess its just part of the job.....
