43,000 Jobs Are Eliminated in Latest Layoffs

The cuts announced Monday included 20,000 jobs at the heavy-equipment manufacturer Caterpillar; 8,000 at the wireless provider Sprint Nextel, and 7,000 at Home Depot and 8,000 from the expected merger of the pharmaceutical makers Pfizer and Wyeth.

Ya I was laid off last July and I thought I'd take a nice 4 month vacationa nd visit family and such. I decide to start getting back into the job market and it took me 2 months to find the job I have now. I am very thankful I have this job.

I feel bad for all of these people getting laid off left and right.

It's definitely a scary time in the US and all around the world. Hopefully we'll pull out if it soon otherwise I can see a lot of industries having some really hard times.

not only that, but Home Depot is cancelling their "Expo" stores. Means all those employees go too. Thankfully, Ninja Chuck Norris Android will always have his job of saving and pwning Earth unless the human race destroys itself.

I work for home depot too...I also worked at and still have many friends at EXPO, they were just told today they are closing thier store. They are all trying to get into a home depot location, but there's only so many spots=(

I heard the threshold for closing stores is under 15 million a year and my store is currently at 38...so we should be good
