    Default WiFi Connection

I would like to get on the internet at a WiFi hotspot, coffee shop etc., with a cell phone, without incurring a additional service fee to my basic cell phone plan.
Both the Verizon XV6800 and the T Mobile Blackberry 8820 are listed as 802.11 compatible. I've visited the Verizon and T Mobile websites and the answer is unclear.
I'm mainly interested in accessing my Google calendar and Yahoo mail.
Has anyone tried to do this? Is it possible?

Yes the G1 can connect to wifi, and since this is not t-mobile's network you wil not be carged. however im pretty sure you still cant get the phone without buying the unlimited data plan so no matter what ou connect to your still paying.

Most hot spots are free. Unless you go to Starbucks and they have T-mobile internet wi-fi and you have to subscribe for like $10 or a month or something... It usually depends on the company providing the internet.

Yeah, it won't matter for me because almost everywhere is free AT&T wi-fi or T-mobile wi-fi here, and since I'll have a data plan, which includes free TMO hot spot I'm good to go almost anywhere I go.

BTW, Starbucks are now AT&T wifi. With the data plan, you get Tmo wifi so you can connect via 3g or wifi. however if you just plan on getting the G1 without a plan you'll need to find free wifi or pay for wifi service.

at&t did actually purchase the rights to starbucks' wifi networks from t-mobile, but t-mobile still will offer for it for quite some time

    Cool Re: WiFi Connection

"with t-mobile you can access any wifi locations but u must have a open network or know the key code. As far as starbucks att did purchase the rights but it will be a while before u have to pay for it"
