Widgets Needed

As soon as Google opens the API to create widgets on the Home screen, I'm sure you'll see more than just these. I know I'll be jumping on the widget bandwagon as soon as we can.

apparently, the issue is that the source code for the widgets havent been released yet, it would be sweet to develop an app that could convert the code for the google gadgets into android gadgets

So anyone know(willing to search for the rest of us) the status and deadlines for Widget development?
I very much would like my home screen (just the Clock and SMS screens) to look like the HTC Touch Pro.

Ditto, differnt choices on clocks, various search bars (like one that will search your gmail acct), weather, Rss feeds, stock ticker, performance meters, mp3 player, toggle settings, app browser, task switcher, the possible list of useful widgets goes on forever. Problem is if all this was available, people would probably try to run all of it at once and then come here and complain that it takes 10 seconds to answer a phone call or something.

I think Widgets would be limited by the real estate on the home screens, which is probably reasonable enough not to lag the phone. Battery drain & homescreen load times will probably be complained about more.
