could it be that a neighbor has got a t-mobile wifi router?
I downloaded the T-Mobile Hotspot locator a long time ago, but never found it useful. About two days ago, the pink dot suddenly appeared on my notification bar when I was sitting at home. I thought it was the phone going crazy like always, so I ignored it. But it's been two days now, almost everywhere I go I would get that connection icon telling me I have been logged into a Hotspot. When I use the locator, it doesn't indicate any spot that's even remotely close to where I live or where I am at the moment. The speed is really fast (4.5 Mbps). Will I get charged extra for this?? If no, then T-Mobile is doing something seriously right! If yes, how dare they!!!![]()

My neighbors are not that close to me. I'd be amazed if a wifi router can reach this far...
this same thing happens to me at my house. let me know if you figure out what's going on.
Same thing happened to me too! I was at Subway waiting in line (and playing on my phone) while it automatically connected to the T-Mobile HotSpot that was in the Starbucks next door. By the time I got back to work, it was still there. Even though I turned off Wifi, the icon still remains. I think its some sort of bug.![]()
Just to chime in...this just started for me this afternoon. Wi-fi connected at work and the pink dot appears and tells me I am connected to a hotspot, when obviously I am not. I also have the hotspot locator installed, yet the nearest hotspot is about 4 miles away.
Do they charge extra for this? (What if no Data Plan, does it matter)
If so F-THAT!
i'm pretty sure when you get the G1 data plan it includes tmo hotspot access.
i don't think the phone is actually connecting to wifi (unless it's the mobile broadband thing, and i doubt that). pretty sure it's just a bug. if you don't open the hotspot app, it doesn't come up.
I mean, isn't the T-Mobile Hotspot like.... WiFi?
So if you connect.... would it be free?
Add me to the list. Happened to me too. It went away after a reboot. Quite odd.
