Default Why a pre order so early?

Maybe I'm thinking too much, but why would T-Mobile offer a pre order so far in advance if we're not going to get our phones before the launch date? I mean, I can see a couple of weeks in advance, but if they have a limit on how many G1s can be pre ordered, shouldn't they also have that same amount ready to be shipped right then?

Not sure exactly what you mean there at the end, but they started their pre-sell a month before release. I think its a good amount of time to begin pre-selling them. I couldnt tell ya for sure, but most companies allow some product available for pre-sale and send out some to all the stores for regular purchase.

Not only does it somewhat "reward" their dedicated customers, but it gives them an idea of how big the demand is for them so they can order the proper amount.

Um how is it a reward if someone can just goto a T-Mobile store and buy one the same day us prereleasers recieve ours... I say we should get ours a week earlier or someone... anyone else on this same thought-wave?

Nah, the reward is that we don't have to leave our homes. We can go to work and come home to our G1s waiting for us. No lines, no depression when the phone is sold out, nothing but PURE UNADULTERATED CELEBRATION!!!!!

I can see what the OP is getting at. For both the Sidekick 3 and Sidekick LX launch, pre-orderers got their devices a week before the general public. I sure would appreciate this now!!!

Well hopefully we get our phones a week before the release! I can tell you i would love that! But im not going to get myself psyched up about it, because the 22nd is so far away! nevermind thinking it might come a week beforehand, then still having to wait till the 22nd!

plain and simple...pre-orders = funding to make more phones.

lots of pre-orders means, there is a good demand for the product, thus, that money can go into making enough available at actual launch.

    thats my 2 cents.

if i pre-ordered, i would want my phone before anyone else, but as it sits..you're still getting your phone the same day i can get mine, so thank you for paying to have my phone made

I can see your first point, that pre-orders will show the potential demand for the phone (which could then allocate funds for more phones) but our preorders aren't paying for your phone since most of us won't be billed until November or December. Besides I'm lazy...I want my phone to show up at my door

lots of reasons why a pre-order would be this early... its not even that early imo, a month? ever try pre-ordering a video game? sometimes you can do this a year in advance... just like theres lots of reasons why companies do mail in rebates, they don't make sense to you, but they make a heck of a lot of sense from a business standpoint... and although you may hate it, its ultimately 90 percent of the time your fault you didn't get what you want; and don't take that personally, we're talking about general masses...
