Having played with my gf's iPhone, I can say that an actual keyboard is nice. Leave the virtual keyboards to StarTrek, dorks.

I agree there should be a less harsh option than "mad." I would have preferred both options, as one-handed operation could be nice. Even t9 would suffice. I guess the capability is there, though, as it's a software limitation. And at least we have the real qwerty thumbboard there, because it's probably what we would all use the most anyway.

i am upset there is no virtual keyboard, having both a real and virtual keyboad is utilizing the phones true input potential, both have pros and cons to them and having both is good for all kinds of situations when you need to use your phone.

im surprised this was not included, 3rd party developers and htc have made strides in virtual keyboard apps, however apples iphone/touch keyboard SUCKS and i dont think they're ever going to fix it, because there making gobs of money anyway off their phone, people are dealing with the crappy keyboard

but this is about the gphone and the openness, not the dictator that is apple, so hopefully all our discussions on this are reaching the right people at this very moment. i cant wait for cnet and engadget to bring up this topic too

I would rather have one!! Especially for times that I might not want (or be able) to open the phone..

I must be crazy or just not get it lol, but how the hell do people type on the iphone and be even close to as fast and accurate as a full keyboard? I have used it and its like pecking away with one finger. I can see "getting use to it" but even then it wouldnt be near as good as the keyboard on the G1. The only time I can see using a virutal keyboard is driving. We will get it either way just a matter of time.

i was totally a skeptic of virtual keyboards and will never prefer one over a physical qwerty...BUT...I do like the idea of having both, since having used my brothers iPhone -- I find it nice to have the OPTION to type with one hand.

(which is possible with some qwerty's -- but not without the risk of looking like a fool and/or dropping an expensive G1)

being an ex-sidekick user, and now a iphone user.

i cant wait to get my g1 so i can have an actual keyboard. hitting the wrong keys is just a pain. and if the screen is hot and you try to type is wont recognize where your hitting it (when im a the gym this happens a lot)
