Are most of your DivX movies optimized for the framerate and screen size of the G1? If not, you're going to face choppy playback and higher battery consumption. With this in mind, is this still something you'd want?

Been there, tried that, and no, it doesn't work. I come from the Nokia Internet Tablet community and have DivX support on my N800, but battery life and playback quality suffers significantly if I don't optimize the file.

If you want a media player to watch TV series and movies on, it really makes more sense to get a dedicated PMP, not use a phone.

I have no idea about the frame rate etc., all I can say is on several Palm smartphones I have had the opportunity do watch tv shows while on the bus or subway (or waiting for these), which I find very convenient. I'm not looking for Full HD quality, but haven't noticed choppiness - of course the battery drains quicker as I keep the screen on, but that doesn't bother me too much as I have a desk charger at work and a USB cable charger at home.

    Thanks,
    Christopher

Are you on Windows? If so, here's something I'd recommend, which I'm using myself for TV series that I catch on the run, like Bones and CSI:

    1. Download and install the Nokia Internet Tablet Video Converter (see http://www.nokia.com/betalabs/videoconverter). It's a free download from Nokia Beta Labs

    2. Set the output directory to a new folder on your PC. I use a folder called 'TV' on my desktop.

    3. Download and install Microsoft SyncToy 1.4.

    4. Connect your G1 to your PC and Mount it as external storage. Browse to your movies folder on the G1, or set up a new folder. In my case, I have a folder for my Synced TV.

    5. In SyncToy, set SyncToy to sync the Nokia IT Video Converter output folder with the one in (4) above.

    6. Drag and drop the AVI/DivX episodes into the Nokia IT Video Converter, and go to sleep, watch some TV, whatever.

When the file is converted, it automatically syncs with your G1's SD card, and voila, you have videos on the go, optimzed with no drama whatsoever.

When you're done watching the episode, you can either delete it, or archive it to another folder (in which case, the file will be deleted from your G1 on the next sync, freeing up space for more recent episodes/conversions)

Am I the only one that's glad the G1 will have AVRCP? This is a great feature that I have become accustomed to thanks to my previous SE phones.

for the uneducated, AVRCP (Audio Video Remote Control Profile) allows a device connected via bluetooth to control another device, i.e. when my phone is connected to my car stereo via A2DP and AVRCP, not only does my car play my music that's on my phone, but my car stereo also controls playback (like next/previous song, play, pause, FF/RW, etc..).
