    Angry Warning for Deaf Communities

    I found, http://androidcommunity.com/first-t-...view-20081009/

Con's: Video playback is very limited. The G1 would not play .mpg or .wmv files which are pretty much the standard when it comes to videos downloaded off the net.

I am very disapointment. BlackBerry Storm and HTC Touch Pro do have the wmv files! Videomail is the best messages for Deaf Communities.

Deaf Communities will be disapointment as I do!

not sure what that has to do with deaf people...
The g1 does not have video playback/recording naively.
Google left that to a 3rd party to create. it wil come in due time

Yes it does had to do with Deaf people.

    Example:
Hearing people can listen to the voicemail messages.

Deaf people can watch video messages.

AT&T Tilt does have that. It is great device for Deaf People who want to have the video message!

Now, HTC Touch Pro and BlackBerry Storm does have that!

The point is... They forgot about WMV files for T-Mobile G1. Htc do have wmv files but T-Mobile G1 do not have it how stupid?

I do not know if it will always a fix for these things.

    Another Review!

    Quote:
Well, as the T-Mobile G1 was unveiled and it’s going to be available for users in a few days, I thought I could give you an insight of the smartphone. The HTC Dream will feature QUALCOMM 528 MHz processor, 192 MB of RAM, 256 MB of ROM, and it will work on quad-band GSM 850/900/1800/190, and dual-band UMTS 1700/2100.

As any T-Mobile G1 review should start with the connectivity then you should know that it will work great as the call quality is really impressive and thanks to the loud speaker, you will be able to hear your friends. Why am I saying this? Because other HTC devices are lousy in this area and it has to be really quiet around you so that you can have a nice chat.

The T-Mobile G1 measures 4.6×2.2×0.7 inches and it weighs only 5.6 ounces which is really great as everybody expected it to be heavier, however, we can call it a lightweight smartphone. The HTC Dream will be powered by Google’s Android OS which works great and the Android Market is as better as the AppStore that Apple designed for the iPhone.

The HTC Dream review continues with the 3.2-inch touchscreen in 65k colors which sports a resolution of 320×480. The touchscreen is very responsive like on all HTC devices and I could say that it’s better than the iPhone’s TS. I have to say that I’m not that pleased with the battery, as the talk time stands at about 400 min and it could last up to 402 hours in standby mode.

There are a few downsides of the T-Mobile G1 as there is only a sliding QWERTY keyboard without virtual QWERTY, the lack of a 3.5mm headphone jack really annoys me, and apparently the video playback is really poor as it doesn’t support .mpg and .wmv files.

Well, let’s wait for the HTC Dream, or T-Mobile, depending on how you wanna call it to come out and let me know how your smartphone works!

The deaf people I know only have the data plans since they can't talk on the phone so this would not work for them.

Seriousthinker what software/camera do you use to make videomail?

I'm wondering that too. How hard is it to convert from wmv to mp4 or 3gp on the computer? Very easy in my book, there's free software that can do it. I can give a link if it is allowed. But I understand it might be hassle for all the other people sending the videomail to seriousthinker to have to convert to mp4 format.

And though android doesn't have video recording for now, most, if not all video recorders on phones actually record to mp4 or 3gp format in default. Even the video phones which have a front camera for videocalls tend to record to H.263 which is a type of mp4. So actually mp4 & 3gp are more popular formats than wmv for phones. WMV is a proprietary format actually (windows media video); the only reason why they use it for videomail is because most people using videomail are on their windows computers and so this is the default video they can play.

There are plenty of other phones that don't support wmv (ie. like my current phone which only supports mp4 or 3gp, and the nokia n95 doesn't support it either). It will just be a bonus for me to have a player that supports on Android, but for you I guess it is a necessity. So if you can't live without wmv, then the best thing is to skip this phone for now. Warning is the iPhone 3G doesn't support wmv either for the same reason, if you looking at that phone.
