    Default WANTED: Unrooting How To

ok i hate to do this but every time i get close to getting this answer the thread goes dead and i did a search for "unroot" and didnt get too much

so from all the information i got

i cant go from jf1.42 to rc33 i have to flash rc29 because of test keys
now does that mean download rc29 and put it in root of the sdcard rename it update.zip and run it or do i need to do more?

like i said in the other thread its sort of urgent because i have to send my phone back to tmobile soon

yeah, rc29, and if you want you can upgrade to stock rc33 by doing a short cut to device info using anycut app

White G1 with a REALLY hard to see keyboard on low light due to backlight (not any more! I have "dark keys" installed)

    Haykuros 5.0.2H+engineering BL

I don't understand why someone would go through the trouble of rooting and then unroot the phone. There is no functionality loss beside automatic updates (which you get sooner if you manually update). Even if you have no real use for a rooted phone what if an update permanently dissables your ability to reroot your phone and something amazing comes out that requires a rooted phone? you'd be kicking yourself over it.

You might want to go back and read the tread, He needs to send it back to t-mo and probably doesn't want to risk warranty void..

That's interesting, because I've been thinking of doing the JF thing but only to have all my apps/apps data on the SD card.... I haven't seen much talk on the downside of the mod... doesn't anyone who has modded have problems with the JF rooted modded G1...

Let me know or maybe we should start a new thread

hey moderator what do you think?

Under the "Kernel version" in Settings -> About phone, does it say "jesusfreke" or is there JF (or whatever you used) in there?

If not, then you likely have it back to stock. You can also download the terminal emulator from the Market and see if it connects and if you can login as "su". If you can't, then you removed root.

Or you can wait and see if you get the RC33 OTA update. If you do, then you're back to stock because the JF mod turns off OTA update.

Being as you went from RC33 to RC30, then you more than likely still have root, as I don't know if there's a stock RC30 update.zip file out there. If I were you, I'd go back and download the RC29 file (should be something like DREAIMG.zip). Unzip the file, put it on the device and follow the steps just to flash to RC29, and let the system OTA back up to RC33.

    Make sense?
